Not fun
I guess I don't have to worry about those since it's yet to leave me. It's hard to not have it consume a lot of our thoughts, both waking and sleeping. I would probably do the same thing but I don't think that thinking about it can be doing you much good (duh?) yet it's obviously hard to ignore that it happened. Maybe try something soothing before bedtime? Some herbal tea or something?

Bad nights
I don't exactly have nightmares, but I'll have a night every once in awhile where I really have a hard time going to sleep. I'll just lie there and toss and turn and relive the experience of finding out I had cancer. I have to fight the urge to shout out loud, "I have cancer!" Hope your dreams will go away.

Dreams are weird
I think they can reflect our worries, not necessarily foresee the future. There is one dream I recently had that I hope is foreshadowing though - my CEA has risen recently + in my dream I got my next blood results + the CEA was WAY down; I could see the whole sheet of blood results (I must be looking at these results too closely!) I hope you can enjoy your situation; it sounds like you are doing so well + I see nothing but good things for you!0 -
What does cancer represent to you?
In classic dreamwork ala Jung, everything in the dream represents some aspect of ourselves. The images often can be quite graphic, and if it's something we've been ignoring, can be so graphic that they are guaranteed to grab our attention (for me it's like working with the tarot deck and all its graphics and can spook me.) Dreams are rarely literal, though I can doubt myself as well as the next person....but I think looking at the non-literal imagery would be a good first step.

I don't sleep long or deep or solid enough to generate dreamslesvanb said:What does cancer represent to you?

and if I have been dreaming (while asleep)I sure don't remember any....I have my occassional nightmare while awake, when my mind dwells on the fact that I do in deed have cancer and all which that implies. CRC has sooooooooooo many facets, none of which are pleasant.....steve0 -
Dreams...
A wise man once said:
"The only difference between a Dream and a Nightmare is the amount of wetness."
(oh wait, that was me that said that)
I have continual dreams of driving a vehicle to places that have unexpected hills
or mud, or water. They're re-occurrent dreams, where I could swear I've been there
before.... but there it is again...
So one of those "dream interpretation" web sites suggests it's due to not knowing
one's destination in life...... Not knowing where to go, or what to expect.
I guess that's about right for any cancer patient, ehh? Who in hell knows where
we're going, or what direction we'll be headed in?
Having cancer takes it's toll. We have been given a warning notice that our contract
with life might expire at any time. Great though, since many others never got that
notice. They just got fired when they least expected.
So uhh.... where's that unenlifement office, anyway? Can I get benefits?
I think I'm owed something!

medically I am doing well per my ONC, its just an emotional rollar coaster for me,it seems like every time I turn around its time for the 3 month check up, I am sorry please dont take this as me complaining, because I am very lucky to be where I am, and I know so many others have it far worse than I, its just not easy at any stage of this crap. Sometimes I just get so lost in the "I am a stage 4" that I find myself gasping for air. Having a hard time with just living, maybe its because I am not happy, relationship problems, and stress can just kick your butt.
I know another subject but I do wonder how many relationships break up because of cancer? One would think it might bring you closer, and sometimes it does, but sometimes it doesnt.
Okay enough of my venting....

You are not
Beth,
You are not complaining; these concerns are a reality. I have not yet made it to where you are physically (NED) + I can imagine there are lots of emotional battles when you get there; almost like post-traumatic stress. I am sorry you are having relationship issues; those are difficult at the best of times, never mind with what you have been through. I have wondered the same thing about relationship breakups + I have read of a few on this board. The stress of this disease is brutal + I am sure can be what breaks the camel's back in relationships. I am glad your onc is looking after you so well + anything would be noticed very early should it occur (which I don't think is going to happen). I think it must be a little scary when the onc starts spreading out the visits, even though it is a positive sign. I am thinking good thoughts for you.0 -

I have a friend that has trouble sleeping, she does yoga when she needs to unwind, she says it really helps. Dreams can be upsetting, but they are just dreams-at least that is what I think. I have found that sleep aids make my dreams more vivid. The worst dreams I have ever had were when I took melatonin, the dreams were crazy!
I agree that some herbal tea might be soothing also.
Hope you are resting better now.

Dreams
I have not had the cancer dreams, but when I dream of my mom she is always cancer free. I do dream of an ex often, so I think dreams are your minds way of trying to work things out for you, except they always get it wrong. LOL what is about dreams, that most of the time keep what you want, just out of your reach.0 -
never had a cancer dream
Interestly, in the 3 years that I've been fighting this, I've never had a dream about my cancer. I guess the exception is right before my liver resection surgery- I actually dreamed that I died. That definitely freaked me out & I even wondered then if it was God preparing me. Well, I didn't die- I guess I was just worried about it and so then I dreamed about it. Since you've been thinking about it and have been reading here on the board of people's recurrences, i'm sure that's what had you thinking about it and why you dreamed about it.
We work things out in our dreams and dreams also reflect fears that we have, as well as subconscious fears that we may not even fully be aware of.
Rest easy, Beth. You just had a clear scan, so I'm sure all is well.

My wife and I want to start Bikram (sp?) yoga sometime after my son's wedding. Not for stress, but general health.0 -

My husband had a nightmare the other night about being chased and shot many times in the stomach! He said he could feel the bullets too. And he is waiting to have a scan next week-his first since chemo.0
