Keep the positive
Keep the positive thoughts and the fight going. You have the right idea, you want to win and you will. I pray all goes well, my husband had his CEA levels taken on Tuesday, I will be calling tomorrow for the results, I don't wait for them to call. Again, positive thoughts and Prayers are coming your way. God Bless. Margaret0 -

Hello Everyone
I was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer in May. Since then I have had colon resectioning surgery and just had my mediport implanted yesterday. I am scheduled for my first treatment to begin on July 19. My question is this- what is the CEA? I guess this is one of the things I have forgot to ask my oncologist. I have had so many other questions and seems like there are so many things to learn that I sometimes don't know where to start. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

what is the CEA?
CEA is only one of many cancer markers that are used as part
of a total diagnostic evaluation and prognosis.
Alone, it's of no real value. It's like having an elevated sugar
level, or an infrequent incidence of high blood pressure....
Cancer cells give off CEA, and they can give off twice as much
as they are dying, than when they are growing. Other factors
will be taken into consideration by the examining physician.
Many cancers do not give off CEA, or can be sporadic, so
try not to read more into test results than you should. I leave
it to the physician.....0 -
game face on for sure!
You are strong and will get through the days ahead until you can have that pow wow with the doc. As you know, there'll have to be a trend before he gets too worked up, but a scan might make you feel a little better. Is CEA a good marker for you? I'm praying for you, Buzz

buzzzy
damn, I truly was not expecting to hear this from you.
First, you do know it is a waste of energy to let this get to you (at least until you have a clear idea of what THIS means!)
Second, this is why we have these dang tests Buzz- to be able to hopefully catch this before it gets out of hand. You weren't thinking you were having these just for fun were ya?
This is a bump, nothing more.0 -

On another note...until I find out something for sure only my cyber family and 2 friends from work know. I don't want my family worrying about something that may or may not be true. If in fact it is then I will let em know, if its not and im sure it isn't then no harm no foul.....My wife goes through enough just putting up with me ......Maybe she'll make chicken for me or something special......LOL......teasing girls, just teasing...Love to all....Buzz0 -

Hey Buzz.......... I have my very own trash can too. I took your suggestion from a year ago and that can has become very important to me. I talk to it...hit it...kick it...yell at it...cry with it... Thank you for that. You will be fine cause you are YOU. Sending good vibes your way.

Thanks for being your usual inspirational self. Hoping this CEA number is just the fluke that it can be. Thinking of you!

Sounds like it can do some good! I'm glad to hear you are doing better and plan on hitting hard, no matter the outcome! Funny, I can't even keep things from my family by posting here cause my twin has discovered this place and checks out my postings I guess it's his way of finding out what I don't want them to find out! However, my counselor has convinced me it's time I stop trying to protect them anyhow, so it's not as much of an issue anymore. I cause myself additional stress trying to "protect" my family from the ugliness and it's totally unnecessary; my family wants to be with me in all of it, even if it's a false alarm! They want to cry with me, then cheer with me when the news is good! Hang tough

Funny you mention, Chicken. My husband had his CEA level taken on Tuesday and what did he ask me to make for dinner, homemade chicken fingers. Alot of work, but I feel he's worth it. His climbed a little, not high at all, but an increase to me, means I will worry for him. He doesn't know and I keep it that way, don't want him to worry especially if it is nothting. Nurse said normal, so if he asks that's what I'll tell him. Take care, Buzz and stay strong. Margaret0
