Not Unusual for Delayed Surgery
My husband David had PVE done last fall with a scheduled surgery date of December 2009 and his tumor had grown too much so he had to do a couple of months of chemo and his resection was rescheduled for February. In February there was another delay for various reasons. Finally in March he had successful liver resection. So the third time was a charm! I know how disappointed you must be, but don't get too down. It is not unusual for these bumps in the road, according to the good people at MDA. David's surgery was at M D Anderson in Houston and we understood often there are delays. It sure is hard on the patient, and their family. We had kids and family flying in from all over the country and I can't tell you how many times we had to change flights and hotels. We had planned our Christmas in Houston so at the last minute all that had to be rearranged. But in the end, to finally have the resection, is truly a gift. So many aren't eligible and David wasn't either, according to two other surgeons. We were beyond thrilled to find the expertise and skill of his surgeon in Houston.
Please don't give up hope. It's going to happen for you!

Priscilla,
I can't thank you enough for your post. We had visitied the surg. onc. twice (once at orig. dx, once before FOLFOX and he said surgery wasn't an option) then after FOLFOX, the surg. onc. said we can do this. Friday was the pre-op visit and everyone, including the surgeon was disappointed...we were so sure this may come to an end or at least there was a chance. What type of chemo was your husband on for two months? Also my husband has not had the rectal tumor removed, and they won't do it now because of the size of the liver. It has been a quiet long day and seems like forever until Monday, but we had a good day and we're hoping for good news.
Again, I can't thank you enough! So happy to hear about your husband's successful surgery.
Wishing you all the best.0 -

David was on folfori with Avastin for the first month, then just folfiri. I know they wanted him off Avastin one month before surgery. Best of luck to you both!

Kinda similar? I think?
I had a set back waiting for operation number three, ended up getting radiation treatments when Chemo wasnt working. In my case none of the chemo regiments has ever had any effect on the cancer, radiation stopped the growth and I think they called it "provided clear margins?" around the tumors for the surgery? Something like that, I guess I rely to much on my wife to remember the medical terminology? Dont give up, the one thing we all hold on to is hope.
Sending good vibes your way and wishing for you the best.
