Hey all. anyone ever heard of the Undy 5000? It is a 5k run and a 1k walk to raise awarness of colon cancer. Apparently they do it in a few cities around the country, this was the second year in St Louis. People run/walk in their underwear (dont worry they wear them over sweats if they are too reavealing lol) to raise money and awarness of the disease. My wife (an RN) found out about it through her work this year. Her boss is a runner and was looking for a warm up for a marathon he wants to run later in the year that he is currently training for. It was run this past Sat, we didnt find out about it until the Thursday before so we didnt have time to get to involved. But her boss went out and bought some bikini undies and put my name and his wife's grandmothers name on both "cheeks" with a big semi colon ; in the middle! It was great. the best part of the story for me though was my oldest daughter found out about it and while she has been working on a tread mill for the past month has not run like this in a couple of years, Her oldest child is 4 now and the youngest just turned one a month ago. Not only did she run she finished in under 30 minutes!!! My wifes boss, put his "training" on hold and ran the whole thing side by side with my daughter, it was a really nice gesture on his part and not surprising as I have nothing but respect for this man, as they say he is one of the good guys. My daughter went out the night before and bought a blue tank top, on the front of it she put "MY DAD IS MY"
and wore it over boxers that had pictures of a bunch of super hero characters, I blamed the rather cool breeze that was blowing for my watery eyes!
Even though the weather was not great overcast and in the forties with a rather chilly breeze to boot they had over 10,000 people enter it was great. Ill post some pics if I remember how again lol.
next year I am hoping, maybe...I can drag my old but around the course with her.

    Yep
Go to the Colon Cancer Coalition they have all the info on there. There is one coming up, I think in May, in suburb of Chicago. I may be going to that one. There are held all over the US, they got a site. You can join, costs nothing, lost of info. You can read about the Congressional Butt-in on March 30th, where you call and connect with congress, they got all the info.

Also, in case you didn't know there are some other good sites:

    About.com:Colon Cancer
Daily Strength: Conon Cancer Support Group
Chemocare.com has message boards, this is Lance Armstrong's site
    Colon Cancer Alliance
    The Colon Club

I like CCA, I have participated in webinars with colon cancer specialists, oncologistgs, detmatologists, and the like on that site, again, cost is $0.00. They usually have something going every Wednesday evening, 8PM EST. Even if you just sign up and sit in on the room you learn. No big deal to participate, believe me, not too long ago I was on one with a oncologist from Johns Hopkins discussing treatment for liver mets. Check it out.

    Take care - Tina

    We have something similar in
We have something similar in Toronto called "The Underwear Affair". It is in August + supports "below the belt" cancers - colon, prostate, ovarian etc. Participants are encouraged to wear underwear (Joe Boxer is a sponsor). There is a run + walk the same day, you can do whatever you want. My husband, 2 daughters + I are already signed up + more family + friends are expected to join.

That is so nice that your daughter + your wife's boss both participated; I think all of us feel better when we feel we are doing something proactive. Thanks for sharing your pics; your daughter is beautiful! I like the message that your daughter spread; you are her SUPERHERO!
