    10 + year survival

sloan ketterling is about the best palce to be treated. You guys are lucky to have that option.. most people dont. How did the surgery go for the spot on his lung back in 2010(?)

I too have been told that chemo and radiation are not an option... has not been proven to be effective. I have had 11 surgeries in 14 years with the most recent being jan 27th this yeaar. Always in my abdomen, right side. I am a 54 years old female, found my first tumor when I was 40. Tell me more!

Hi. just noticed your post. Thanks for your reply.

Its been several years, needless to say.  In Aug 2014 they found 2 new nodules in my husband's lung.  They decided to watch it and then in Nov 2014 found a small tumor in his QL muscle in the back.  So, another recurrence.  They weren't sure that the lung nodules were a metastasis, since he's been so long out of his first diagnosis.  and the Nov scan showed no increase.

So, they set him up for surgery in January 2015 for the main tumor recurrence.  After getting his preadmission testings and another Ct scan, it showed that the lung nodules grew half a cm.  Surgeon at Sloan decided too risky for surgery as it appeared suddenly this cancer was popping up and could be elsewhere in addition to lungs.

Got scheduled with the oncologist who deals with sarcoma.  Between the two of them they felt it best to try a chemo regimen (even though not great chances) to try and slow it down,  Gemzar and Doxil combo.  After second cycle my husband had cardiac reaction to the Doxil and they had to stop it.  Continued with Gemzar.  His cancer has been stabilzed, and we are truly happy for that.  He's having a scan next Thurs, Aug 27th.  It has been 6 months now since he started this chemo.  We were told we can only go scan by scan, as this cancer can turn at any moment, even if the chemo has helped so far.

They say they have a plan B for another chemo combo should this stop working, although it would be more intense.  Also a possible clinical trial.

As difficult as the surgeries are, I had hoped once again they could just get the damn thing out.  The main tumor recurrence is also near a vital nerve, and the surgeon explained that if and when surgery takes place, there could be nerve damage.

My husband is now turning 53.  Been 8 yrs since first diagnosis, many good runs, many moments of feeling hopeless.  I feel we are at a point where we may be running out of options.  So, very scary right now.

I will update on his next scan.

    Sue
