My mom just had a liver ressection and I was scared to death. The surgery went well and I believe that surgery gives people a new lease on life. She had half her liver removed. It's not easy but you Pooh will do great.
You will be fine, they'll take good care of you! Just relax and let them fix you up. There are people who have had 80% of their liver removed, and are living just fine, good luck with it, I hope my tumors get to the point where they can operate, I hope you will have a speedy recovery, you will be in my prayers!

I had liver resection last July; they removed about 50%,
in hsp 5 days, mostly slept, they kept me pretty sedated
so didn't feel much pain, took about 3 weeks for me to
get going again. I was in a guided imagery group at the
Wellness Center and took a meditation CD with me to the
hospital.....I was calm and ready to take what was coming
when I went into surgery as a result....so any method you
want to use to keep yourself focused on the positive will
really help....also did a lot of walking, exercise and
eating right before the surgery too.....right now I
am NED!! Wishing you the very best,

Not too Bad
Dearest Pooh. I have had 2 liver re-sects and they weren't too bad. Five days in hospital and at least a couple of weeks at home before you are really up and around. I started walking up and down the block at about 2 weeks and really tried to get mobile again. Didn't take much to hospital because I found I just used their gowns. My liver has grown back twice and my life is not compromised in any way. and I was just declared NED so there you go!!! please ask away on any specific questions.
You will do FINE!!!1 love, mags -
I'm sounding like a broken record...lol!
But...'it is what it is'....
Whew! Now that THAT's out...
Dearheart, I truly believe that you need to hit this thing (cancer) as hard as possible, as quickly as possible. I know you are weary, frightened, tired, etc...I remember the feeling when the doctors said that even though they could find no evidence of cancer left after my pre-surgical chemo/rads, that based on my age and life expectantcy, I should have the bowel resection as scheduled. This was life altering...my entire rectum and sigmoid colon was removed, and my descending colon was fashioned into a 'new' rectum.
Then, just as I recovered from the surgery, the whole mess started again, with my second cancer (breast) that they had found at the same time and said "You need to survive the colon cancer first...THEN we'll deal with the other"...so, surgery, chemo, rads AGAIN! And then, a total bowel obstuction that needed surgery again...sigh...I was more in the hospital than out in 2005!
In December, I celebrate 5 years survivorship since diagnosis. In July, it was 3 years post-any treatment for either cancer. I was miserable during the process, but now, I am happy that I stood up tall, straightened my trembling shoulders, and fought the beast as hard as I could...
BIG hugs, sweet soul....Kathi -

mine went well
Hi Winney,
I had a liver resection in May 2008 at UCSD in San Diego. I was in the hospital 6 days. Although the first 2-3 days were far from fun, I had no complications and really recovered pretty well. I went from thinking after the first day or two that I'd never even be able to sit up and certainly not put my feet on the floor and walk or function normally again to actually riding a horse and going river rafting on a family vacation just over 2-1/2 months after surgery. That probably wouldn't have been what my doctor would have recommended for me, but I did fine. So right after surgery, when you're feeling like you'll never be able to move around normally ever again, know that things definitely get better. My giant 8 inch curved scar has just recently turned completely white, after being dark red for a long time.
I'll be praying for you that all goes well. Please let us know how you are as soon as you're able to.
God bless-

I had 60% taken out in April 09 and I am now NED. You will be fine, I was not walking too good at 2 weeks and actually needed 8 weeks before I went back to work.
You will need some assistance after surgery. -

Good Luck Pooh-Bear. A liver resection is a great gift and one of the best methods we have of ridding the liver of those nasty mets. I was in the hospital for about 5 days. It went well with no complications.
Remember... you are not alone. We go together!
