it's hard for me to keep track and we are right in the midst of it. The first fire was right behind our house. It started Tuesday and has been moving away from us, but about 4am this morning I awoke to the smell of smoke again, We are in San Dimas, the fire started in the Angeles Crest Mountains (right behind us), then moved on to the west a bit, which is now the Station Fire they refer to, but we are still fairly far away.
My mom lives in Yucaipa, and they now have an Oak Glen fire which is just a couple of hills away from her. Oak Glen is now being evacuated, so I need to make sure she is OK.

Thanks, sweetie~ Reggie and I are fine during this latest rage~ tho I had an idea Cat was in its"neighborhood"..I am wondering about SurferMom, as well. KathiM is, as we know, in Holland. But she lives nearby to the fires as well, so I hope that their property is not in danger. We have had 2 major fires recently; we still see the water dropping helicopters daily, and the fires have taken over 90,000 acres. Some of our friends have lost their homes. :-(

The temps have been in the triple digits with high winds...and when I think that most of these fires are human-caused~ well, don't even start me.

Just want you to of course know that if you need to get away~ my place in Santa Ynez is available to you. It's closer to Cambria too ( hint hint)

I may just need to grab my Mama and head to Santa Ynez! Surf is just one town East of me (Pomona), so I do believe she should be OK too unless the fires move again (imagine that)! We never realized how close we both worked and lived to each other. Small Small World (just like the Santa Ynez thing)

Of course I hope ,hope, hope that you will never have to come to SY because you HAVE to come to SY~ yet I also want you to know that I am serious about your being welcome should the need arise. Sometimes it's just good to have options for the "Just In Case" times! Not that High School gyms might not be wonderful ( sure!) but ya know.... LOL

Lili thank you for opening this thread, I appreciate it. I am in Lodi about an hour from the Auburn fires that took 60 homes last night. I have posted a map in the expressions gallery for ref. if anyone would like to see where we California folks are in ref to the fires.

We are fine for now, here in Corona. Our hills and brush still recovering from the Tri-Plex fire Yorba Linda/Anaheim Hills/Corona several months ago September.

Anyone out there needing a place to stay .. Please let me know .. we have 2 X bedrooms.

Me too about being in my own little world. When I decided to make this BC "all about me" I guess I took it literally. I am so happy to hear everyone is safe. I wasn't even aware of the fires till I read this post. Good friend's of ours lost everything a couple years ago from the CA fires and said they were given 30 minutes to get out!! They ran one of the Young Life camps. There was nothing left for them to return to. Please stay safe everyone! ♥ Pammy

oh these fires...
the first one was behind our house, that one seems to have moved on, now they are worrying about all those towers on Mt Wilson, they run cells, TV's, emergency radio announcements etc. The Oak Glen fire was close to my mom, then the Yucaipa fire (which they already know was set by a couple of kids!!!) was too close to mom and they told her to evacuate. It is still voluntary, and a couple of her neighbors have decided to stay, so she will too unless they make it mandatory. She was up all night checking, but this morning nothing has changed (except Arnold visited), so hopefully she will not need to leave.
thanks for all the good wishes, but do not feel bad about not knowing or hearing about the fires, remember, CA fires seem to be so common, the news feeds usually dont bother until someone gets hurt. Two firefighters lost their lives yesterday, and my heart goes out to all of them and their families. Having been through this a few times now, I am forever grateful for these people who put their lives on the line for us. One of the base stations was set up at our park down the street for one of the fires, and I had my husband take them 20 pizzas and about 50 bottles of soda and ice. I felt is was such a small thank you I could do for them, and they were so appreciative it made me feel like I should do even more. So thanks again and I hope everyone of us CA sisters is out of the line of fire.

Updates from my daughter....
Redlands is smokey from the Oak Glen fire. There are warnings to stay inside.

But, it seems that this is a yearly or semi-yearly thing. I wish the folks that keep rebuilding will get the idea that this is a fire area, and maybe they should build elsewhere. Either that, or make sure to have a fire-proof room built into the ground under the house to store all the family stuff, etc.

I thought about mountain living at one point, it is so beautiful, but then the Grand Prix fire and others convinced me otherwise...

Hope all is well...I don't get much news in Holland...they all think that the whole state is going up in flames...Here, Greece is on fire, and Spain, too...hummmmm...a grease fire....sorry....
