Hey everybody!
Went for my mammogram today. The radiologist wanted multiple x-rays because my breasts are dense(clear up into my armpits,the tech said). The first x-ray with my left(affected) breast hurt like he... double toothpicks(if you get my jest-pardon my french-I don't swear very often,but boy,I felt like it then)!! All that scar tissue being squeezed and clamped down was very painful to say the least!!And of course the left one seemed like the one that he wanted the most pictures of... The tech was very nice-and of course I felt an instant bond with her when I saw she had a pink ribbon designed jacket on over her scrub shirt and she had told me that her mom is a breast cancer survivor! Very nice and gentle gal... Well anyways,back to the mammo-the radiologist will look over and compare them to my last 2 or 3 and hopefully good news for me! What is it someone said on here-no news is good news?! So I will be hoping for no news and try not to hold my breath for the next few days!
I was able to get sappy in the waiting room with another one of my chemo onc's patients-singing my onc's praises-the man is awesome,what can I say!!
My sister didn't have her mammo today-she missed her appointment because she is a flight nurse and was busy at the time"intubating a child".Very sad... She is hoping to set up a new appointment for sometime this week and will let me know.
Thanks everyone for thinking and praying for us! I told my sister about telling you guys,and she said thanks!!

I will go with the no news scenario for you
Glad it is now over with and you don't have to think about it until next year.
When I went in for mine, they asked me to stay to get the results before I left. Makes for an easier time of it with no waiting. Can they do that for you?

was happy with the x-rays that he got,but still wants to compare them with my old ones(or maybe my left one with my old ones-I don't know!).I'm glad that he's so thorough! You know how it is when you go in for a checkup and you can't remember everything-well that was me today. The tech was so nice in describing everything-but I didn't get everything she said. A lesson that we all try to teach the newbies and I suck at it myself-writing down questions and the answers!
All I know is that I had to keep being x-rayed until he was happy with what he saw.
Last time,he gave me the results before I left. This time,I'm not sure. Should have said something while I was in there. I did call them back when I got home and the receptionist said that he usually compares them with the old ones later on...

Yeah, I'll be hoping along with you in terms of the "no news is good news" scenario! Here's a little tip for next time (and for anyone else reading this): A couple of hours before your next mammo - take a couple of Tylenol, or whatever works for ya (I personally prefer Aleve). Of course, as we so often state here on the board, check first to make sure it's OK. (I actually got this tip from a mammo tech.) It certainly doesn't prevent the "ouch" factor during - especially the areas affected by BC. But, it sure helps at least a little bit, and more so later with the soreness afterwards.

Patty, I'm glad, too, that your doctor is so thorough..whatever it takes to be confident everything is clear. Bad news, I've found, usually finds you faster than good. I will be praying and hoping that all is well with you and your sister.

I will also be praying for you, I know what you mean about being nervous, my mamo with the breast specialist, and follow-up with the rad-onc AND apt. with lymph-specialist, are all in one day, plus I have to travel 4 hours to get there OH BOTHER!! the next day I have a herceptin treatment back home in the AM, if I thought I was worn down now, just wait until thurs. At least it will all be taken care of and hopefully I won't have to worry for awhile.

I think the woring wears us out more than anyting. Good luck and keep us posted.

thanks for the tip-I'll try to remember that for next time(I'll write it down somewhere so I can).I forget if it really hurt that much the first time I had it done after bc-can't remember it being so painful with that first x-ray(better keep my mouth shut-I don't want to scare others off who havn't had their first "post-mammo"yet-hopefully it's different for you guys!!).
I'll keep your mammo appointment next Monday in mind-and I'm hoping for good results for you!

I so know what you're talking about as far as appointments go! Having to schedule life around your appointments is crazy sometimes! And it's different (at least for me) trying to schedule those appointments and then feeling like you can't call back to postpone them for later...
4 hours,oh my! That is a long time-but if you like and trust your docs,I'm sure it's worth it!
I'm hoping for good results for you with your mammo and your follow ups as well!Keep us posted!
