First of all im praying for
First of all im praying for you. I know exactly how you feel and everyone else here does to. The day before my surgery all i did was cry. I was sooo scared. It is only natural to feel this way. Dont feel bad for your feelings and you need to cry. Share them with the support you have there as well. You need to let them know and let it out dont keep it in hiding. You will be surprised how much it will help you to get that extra love and hug from your loved ones. I lost both of my breast i had a double mastectomy. It is very hard to deal with and i cant do it alone. I thank god i have my mom and i cry even now sometimes and she helps me so much on dealing with my fears and anxiety about everything. Check into financial aid with the hospital. The hospital i went to gave me 100% coverage for everything. Please reach out to the ones that are there with you. You have to and i promise you that it will help. Your feelings are totally understandable. Good luck to you and god bless. Im giving you a big hug.

    Hi ppurdin
I believe crying is really good for you. I do it often but not as much as I did. Sometimes being strong and trying to hold it together just catches up to you and you need to release it. I am just losing my hair now after my second chemo treatment. The positive thing is my hair was yucky anyway so I get to start over but it is a little freaky seeing it fall out in the shower. Check with the hospital about coverage for your surgery. The social workers there should be able to help you out with it.
Remember we have all been there too. The unknown is probably the worst part. Once you know what you are dealing with it will be easier to face.

    Hang in there.

    Hugs

    Hey there
You are gonna get through this. Now is not the time to worry about the insurence, just get through the surgery first. One step at a time. We all have BC and we're all going on with life. You will too.

    Understand how you feel.
I had alot of the same fears in the beginning. I also felt like I couldn't get emotional in front of my husband and kids. It felt like they did not understand. That has changed and I am alot more comfortable with showing my fear. My husband is very supportive.
I just want to wish you the best of luck and just know that cancer treatment has come a long way so we are in good hands!

    Most hospitals will always
Most hospitals will always work with a patient to help with any financing. And, the ACS will help you also. So, if you need to, contact both, your hospital financing dept. and the ACS. You really need to talk to an oncologist or someone that can answer your questions. It seems that you weren't properly told or had explained to you what is going to be happening.

Call tomorrow and stress that you have to see the doctor. They can answer all of your questions and put you at ease.

    Good luck!

Hey I'm new to this to your not alone. I'm going for a double mastectomy with lymph node removal on both sides on the 23rd. Contact your local medicaid office or your local health dept. there is a government program for just breast and cervial cancer. Just for women who are uninsured or underinsured. Also the hospital social workers should be able to help you. call ACS and they can direct you or refer you to programs that are available. I'm more worried about the financial than I am of the cancer right now my daughter will be starting school. will my husband and I be able to get her clothes or supplies or pay the rent and car payment or put food on the table. I am the majority of the income right now. my last day of work was today.
Please keep your chin up we are here with you. let us know when you are able

    Hang in there, ppurdin
I'm sure everything seems pretty overwhelming to you right now. Try not to dwell on the specifics such as "how much more breast" will be removed and think of it more as "they will remove more breast" to ensure they have taken it all out. Hang in there. Don't worry about holding up in front of the family!! You are going through a very stressful operation and should know it is OK not to be strong. Instead, lean on your family. I boohoo'd so much before my surgery that I was able to comfort myself for them eventually!! This really confused the heck out of them!! :) Pammy

I started my care off through this program, I PROMISE I will call tomorrow and find out the name of it, they paid for everything until I got my medi-cal going. Meanwhile while know that we are with you.

Are you also having a re-incission? If so my doctor told me that after they do mine on Thursday that my breast and original incission will look the same, I'm hoping that all goes as planned and that she's right. Believe I know that it's scary, I'm excactly were you are at, but believe me when I say that we will get through this. The warriors on this site are a testemony that!!!!!!(BTW Thank you all)

I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers to night.

    Hi ppurdin. The only thing
Hi ppurdin. The only thing that helped for me is to get information. The saying "Knowledge is Power", is not just a stupid cliche. Every single resource I have read on Cancer says the same thing. People who take an active role in their therapy recover the fastest and the best. All of us has lost some control of our lives going through this. Having knowledge, knowing what is going to happen, why and when is the only thing that kept me sane and gave me a sense of control. I would like to recommend the following book. It has become my Bible, my diary and my reference for all things breast cancer related: Breast Cancer - The Complete Guide. ISBN: 0-553-38248-9

I urge you to find out as much as posible about this disease. It will give you a sense of control, and you will feel more calm.

    Welcome,
though I am sorry you have to be here. Yes,they should have someone there at the hospital who you can talk to about financial matters. I know it's a pain in the butt to have to worry about that when you've just found out that you've got cancer. I found myself worrying about that most of all when I was diagnosed!
I know that it is a lot to take in-I remember! I know that it's hard to think this now,but you will get through this! One step at a time. And you have to think about you while you are thinking of everyone else!

My Thoughts & Prayers Will be With You....
I am new to this board, but already have found comfort and support with these awesome people! I can imagine you're scared and the unknown is always scary. Think positive thoughts...that most definitely helps. Your family and support group will get you through this. I will be thinking of you, and remember you're not alone. Best of Luck!!

I know this is so very hard
I know this is so very hard to deal with. Its scary, and emotionally draining. It is also very hard on family members who love you. BUT, you must try and muster up your strength, and believe that you will get through this and be well again. We have all been where you are and some are there now. Think positive---the mind is very powerful. Just concentrate on getting well. You can deal with reconstruction later if it is needed. Most cancer centers have a social worker on staff. Seek them out. He/she can give you information about possible sources for financial help if your insurance has holes. They can also suggest ways to get counseling. I recently asked the social worker at my cancer center for a recommendation for a counseler that specializes in treating cancer patients/survivors. She gave me a name and my pcp put through a referral for my insurance.

Social workers can be a real life line. Hang in there and we will be here for you and praying you will be fine. Eil
