Update on Hans...

Hans is taking a nap right now, so I have a few minutes.

He is definately mentally damaged. His words. He has to look at the callendar to figure out what day it is. Small things mainly, mostly short term memory stuff. But, he realizes he is in trouble, and so he is doing things to exercise his brain. He gets frustrated, and yells (usually at me), but I am trying hard to grin and bear it.

His pneumonia (from the intubation) is almost gone, and the gashes (!) in his legs and back are healing. There were many, many things done wrong during his stay, including a cardiac fellow (read grown-up resident) who shocked him 3 times, in front of me, flat-lined him the last time. And did it without a medical release, or an order from anyone.

I needed to analyze (you know me...lol!) why I constantly wanted just to run away. I actually did a few times in the hospital, but only to the cafe for a cup of coffee. His behaviors reminded me of my daughter's at the start of her mental illness. And we all know how badly THAT turned out! So, now that I understand my response, it's easier to curb it.

We are facing another procedure on Tuesday, but will not do it without him being better than he is today. This time, it is in the hospital where he is on staff, so it will be more like home. It is not even supposed to require a stay overnight. BUT I will NOT take him home if there is ANY question to his safety...I don't want him coding again, at HOME!

Thank you, again, for all of your support...my fellow sisters!

All of my love, Kathi

    I'm so sorry
Kathi! I'm so sorry you and Hans have to go thru all this! Hopefully, with time, his mind will improve. Sounds like he had a mild stroke from oxygen deprivation and it affected his memory. Hopefully, this will clear up with time. Does he have any weakness in his arms or legs? What at the "slashes" from? Doesn't sound very good! I just want you to know that my thoughts are prayers are with you and Hans and I pray that he can have the next procedure next week and has a much easier time. <<<<HUGS>>>>> Cathy

Kathi, I am so sorry to hear
Kathi, I am so sorry to hear of these problems. We never know how procedures are going to go, and with his medical knowledge, he is probably more acutely aware of his problems. You two continue to be in my prayers, and as this next procedure approaches I will be thinking strongly of you both. Keep us posted, and know that you have lots of people sending prayers your way. Hugs.

    OMG
Wow, sweet Kathi~ you 2 have been through the wringer, haven't you?? Of course I hope that the mental exercises do the trick, and his short term will be revived. Even when you know why, being yelled at is painful. So, ((((((HUGS))))))) to you, Kathi.

I will have to go back and read your original post; I didn't recall reading about leg and back gashes, but I'm gald they're healing.

That this is happening to both of you, and bringing back other unhappy memories only exacerbates a difficult situation, I am sure.

No doubt he will be treated better at his home hospital; please keep us updated when you can.

    We love you!

    Hugs to you and Hans,
    Claudia

Our prayers are with you and Hans
Joe and I both hope and pray that Hans's neurological issues are only temporary and that his next procedure goes well too. Being in his home hospital should make all the difference for both him and you. Thanks for keeping us all posted, and remember to take care of yourself as best you can.

    Thinking of you Kathi
I've been checking the posts quite often hoping for an update on Hans' condition ... and was sorry to read what the two of you are facing now. I can only imagine how frustrating it must be for both of you. Hopefully the "storm" is over and there are only rainbows in your future. You two deserve some sunshine in your lives.

We are all wishing you the best ... and we are all here for you. Please drop us a note on the situation.

    Hugs,

Hey Kathi, so sorry you guys
Hey Kathi, so sorry you guys are going through this. Hans must be having an especially hard time as he is very aware of what's going on. You know they say that doctors are the worst patients. I am praying his memory loss is temporary and have him do crosswords and sudoku puzzles as those stimulate the brain cells. I hope his next procedure goes much smoother and don't bring him home if there is any doubt that he is no 100% ok from the procedure. Thinking and praying for you both. Hugs, Lili
