Ive always known that cancer didn't get me. And I was right I've survived stage 3 cc for over ten yrs.
I always wonderred what would get me. Now I know. My doc found some protein in a routine urine test last month. Thought he would do a twenty four hour protein urine test where they check how much protein your kidneys leak inthat time. The baseline is a max of 150 units it appears i leaked 2110 units . The prognosis appears to be renal failure or end stage kidney disease. Treatments are none,kidney transplant or dialysis. Given that i can't get an appointment to see a speacialist for three months i may not make it to options two or three. Such is life ,Ron.

    So here's my question.........which one of mine would you prefer, the left or the right kidney? There is a reason I have 2, right? Maybe to share with the rest of the class? Seriously, I would do this for any friend of mine!

    Ron: I am so sorry to hear that you are not well, but you beat cancer once, and you can definitely win this battle. I know a lot of people who have been on dialysis for years, giving them time to obtain a transplant. You have been such a wonderful example of survivorship, and I know that you will do the same with this new challenge. Monica

    Thanks Stacie and everyone that has posted. I appreciate your support and friendship.
    Even if I got into a specialist tomorrow ,they probably couldn't save my kidneys, they have misdiagnosed or ignored my symptoms for nearly two years. Sound familiar?
    A word of warning though eight of my last nine scopes I had fleet prep where I would drink a small glass of prep then nine glasses of water instead of making up several litres of prep and drinking that. Last scope they would not supply the fleet because it had been implicated with causing severe kidney damage. I don't drink or smoke so there is a good chance that the fleet was my downfall.
    As i said such is life . I'm in a fair bit of pain from kidneys and a burning neuropathy in hands ,feet and other less pleasant places. I am finding it hard to work if not impoossible but the rent still has to be paid so I keep trying. I guess I'll live till I die. All the best to you all Ron.

    So sorry to hear about this. There must be a way to get in to see a specialist sooner! Maybe camp on the steps until they see you??? Anyway, I'm with everyone else, you will get through this just as you have the CC. You are in my prayers.

    I don't understand why you can't get in to see someone sooner. I don't know anything about kidney disease, but it seems pretty clear to me that you should see a specialist immediately. I don't know where you live, but if I were in your shoes, I would travel as far as necessary in order to see a doctor right away. It simply is not acceptable that you should have to wait 3 months for an appointment. Please don't give up -- make calls, park yourself on the steps of a specialist or travel as far as you have to go in order to see someone now. You mentioned that your symptoms were ignored or misdiagnosed for 2 years -- find a new doctor and do it now, and/or a lawyer. Call your local newspapers and TV stations and let the world know about having to wait 3 months. The squeeky wheel gets oiled. Please don't lay back and do nothing. Never give up.

    I am sending big warm hugs to you, Ron! I know you better, you will fight and fight again! There are many matches for kidney transplants, as Stacy pointed out, we can do well on one.

    Please keep us posted, dearheart! And thanks for the update on the Fleet...I'm headed for a scope, and will ask for different options (I never get past the first 1/2 bottle anyway...).

    You must be so upset by this news. Probably a bit depressed also. Don't let the bad thoughts take over. Fight to get something done ASAP. I have gotten depressed a few time (Stage IV mets to liver) and find myself thinking dark thoughts. When I feel better, I could kick myself for even thinking about giving up. No one can tell another that they have no hope and that includes the doctors! No one knows why, when or where we will not survive...now does not have to be your time, no matter what they say. Get on their butts and don't let them take the fight away from you. My thoughts will be with you. Linda

    I have always enjoyed your upbeat posts on this forum and thought of you as a fighter. Please put your gloves back on, we need you around here.
    My step father who felt like my father fought kidney disease for 5 years with dialysis they taught him to do at home. He lived to see his great grandaughter born and many other happy moments. My prayers are with you.

    I too, would offer a kidney, but I only have 1 myself. I( had renal cell carcinoma before they found my CC and lost 1 kidney last year to that. Seems to me like in your case you could get an appt before that esp if another doc refers u or if you go to an ER. You said it yourself, you beat the cancer and you can beat this too. Its tough I know cuz I have terrible time with my 1 kidney and my bladder as it was damaged during surgery and now is on the side of my body and attached to my leg muscle, lots of bladder pain and incontinence, but dont give up, fight this too and find a doc to see u right away.

    Your posts have helped me get through the past 21/2 years my husband has faced stage 3 rectal cancer. You would always put a smile on my face and make my day. Please take care of yourself again and you will make it through this difficult time. I have a friend that has been living with one kidney for 50 years, she is now 93 years old and still ready to go! Keep you in my prayers.

    Ron, I know this must be quite a blow after all you've already been through. I agree with many others that you should not stop until you find a way for someone to see you sooner than 3 months. That is totally ridiculous!

    Just a word of encouragement. WHEN you do get kidney donor, know that you can live a full, happy and active life with just one. I just turned 55, and I've always had just 1. *hugs*
