Chris,

I kept trying to contact Sue for well over a year after she last posted. I believe she moved to Oregon or Washington State, and she wrote often about the fishing trips she was taking.   She had developed the occular lymphoma, and as best I could read between the lines, treatment was not working very well at that time.  I did not interpret it as life-threatening, however, but she was not explicit about a prognosis.

I emailed her numerous times, no response. I believe illead was the last to hear from her here; I think they spoke on the phone, but my apologies to Becky (illead) if she was not the person who in fact reported having spoken to Sue.

I just the other day was thinking of Sue. I pray that she check back in and reports doing well soon,

max

Hi Max and Chris,

I just checked back on my personal messages and saw that in June '15,  I wrote to Sue to see how she was doing.  She stated that she was having some health issues not related to cancer but they were getting taken care of.  Her eye issue was taken care of with radiation but she was on Watch and Wait with another enlarged node and felt like she may be facing chemo.  She said she would keep me informed but I haven"t heard since then.  I think she was really tiring of health issues, we all know how that is.  Yes, she and her husband had moved to Southern OR on a river.  Bill and I were just in that area, Gold Beach.  We drove through a community on the Smith River on the CA/OR border.  I thought of Sue and have always wondered if she lives in that area, it is great salmon fishing and think that is what she liked to do.  I sure hope she is doing okay and think of her a lot as well as so many of the past posters.  There were a lot of them Frown  We are living in the smoke right now from the Paradise camp fire.  It is about 40 mins. from us and is devastating and so sad.  Our daughter and her husband live there and are evacuated.  They haven't been able to get in but we know they have no doubt lost their home.

Thinking of you, Becky

Hi Becky,

Remembering that you had moved to California to be closer to your children, I have been thinking of Bill and you in the context of the recent news... Glad to see that you have been relatively spared, and hoping that all will turn out ok for you and your loved ones.

for your concern.  Actually we have always lived here, Bill born in Yuba City, me in Marysville, our sister city. I come from a family of longtime almond farmers. It's seems like it is either too much water or fire here in the last few years.  We are thankful that our daughter and family are safe, unlike many, the death toll is now 50 with over 100 missing. The town of Paradise is small and lives up to its name, a beautiful small town, now it is totally gone, it's unbelievable.

Thank you again,

Becky

Becky, we have California almond farmers in our extended family as well.  Seems as though whenever we ask them how things are going, they answer with "@#*! ground squirrels".  They are talking about switching to olives Undecided...Be well.

Not sure how much water olive trees need as compared to almond... As I understand it, many farmers have started plucking out their almond trees because they just need too much for what's accessible in the ground.

Climate change is, willy-nilly, changing all of our lives for decades (centuries?) to come.

Take care.

It ain't what it used to be.  My dad died in April at 91 and my mom is 91 also but they started leasing out their 20 acres a few years ago so I'm not sure about water problems, but ground squirrels....yes and crows.  They have come into orchards at nite and stripped every almond from an orchard.  Now they have to put in new varieties instead of the nice big ones we buy which have a soft shell, to very small ones with very hard shells to discourage the crows. Olives do well here too, in fact Bill and his friend pick them every year and make olive oil.  Where about is your family Evarista?

And I think most of the almond farmers are packing it in at this point.  To much replanting, etc.

Must be in the Frresno area then or along Hiway 5.  Haven't really heard that much up here, my sis is an agricultural ins adjuster and she hasn't mentioned anything, but that area depends on our water I think and we struggle so it makes sense..................life.......everything is more difficult.  At the moment it's with the fires here and in the LA area, it's crazy. We just need to keep our sights in the rifght direction.

I have a friend in that area. She is far enough away to be safe but close enough to see & smell the smoke. The damage is scary.

Hi Chris,

I'll send her a private message again and see what happens.  You could too if you want.  She will get an email from CSN stating that she has a PM at CSN.  Find an old post from her and click on her picture or go to CSN email and  run a search.

Hope you're having a nice day,

Becky

Thank you, Becky, for the information regarding Sue; it seems my memory was mostly correct.  I hope we hear from her.

I did not know that you were so close to Paradise, CA. I have seen pictures of it on the news -- totally burned out, horrible.  I'm glad everyone is safe.  I recall a year or two ago when you were in danger of the mountain dam failing and your town potentially being submerged. Geeze.

Almond farming. I guess analogous to the pecan farms we have here in the Southeast. My grandfather was a huge wheat farmer in western Kansas.  Most of the farms have been bought by farm corporations, and few of my many cousins still out there chose to be farmers themselves. One does own and run a large Angus cattle ranch however, a link to our legacy and a culturally rich past.

Be safe and avoid the outdoors until the air is clean.  Massive diasters differ, but all feel the same.  We were in Charleston for hurricane Hugo...utter devestation, and it to years for the area to recover. A stunning, numbing experience.  Fires, hurricanes, mudslides, earthquakes.  Reminds me of Robert Frost's famous poem Fire and Ice.  You might want to Google it and read; it's very short.

They annonced today that we have the worse air quality on the entire planet which means even more than Bejing.  We actually have a little sun today but yesterday was nasty It was thick and gray, we are having to wear masks. Bill has been dealing with a severe sinus infection for a few months from his monthly rituxan and is on a strong antibiotic, so he had to get a better mask than the N95.  We still don't know if our daughter's house is gone, we assume it is but they haven't covered that area yet. Actually Max, Paradise is close to Oroville where the dam is, in fact some from there have also evacuated because it is headed that way via the dam, however they are setting backfires and keeping it in control.  We have some rain hopefully coming the end of next week, we sure need it.  Like you said Max every disaster is horrible.  I read "Fire and Ice", very interesting with so few words.

I did priv msg Sue on Wed but have not heard anything, I will let you all know if I do. I sure hope she is okay.

Becky

I will keep good thoughts that your daughter is safe, i know how bad those fires are. I lost a home many yrs ago when i lived near Big Bear back in 2003. Hope Bill gets to feeling better soon and thank you for emailing Sue.

                                                  Thank you and stay safe,

I was a member for a long time a few years ago, but because I made political remarks and someone got offended I was booted. Got back on today. Guess I better stick to the story line and keep my nose clean. I am sure the long time members know who I am. The reason I am commenting is I have often wondered what is going on with Sue. We were close  on the site only. Never actually talked to her on the phone other than here. I was her first responder and I guess it's one of those things that stay with you when you are scared with this diagnosis. I know I remember my first responder back in 2010. Anyway, I know Sue moved to Oregon from Washington State a few years back. I tryed writing her several times but keep getting return messages saying it could not be delivered. I do hope she is doing Ok. There are several members that no longer post that I wonder about as well. I guess they all have their reasons.

Of course I remember you and have missed you and think about you often.  When I see old posts and see your granddaughter's picture, it always made me sad.  You were always so supportive of Bill and me.  He's fine BTW, don't know if you were able to monitor so don't want to go through the whole thing if you already know, I really need to update his page.  Yes, I knew you were close to Sue, I still have not heard from her.  I didn't know you were around that long ago Shady.  Most of the old gang has left but we have a nice forum now too.  Yes, please tell us how you are doing.  Max and Poguy are here and others from time to time, like Chris.  Can we use your name?

Welcome, welcome back,

Becky

Been awhile since I have posted. I wanted to post a number of times, but was not allowed. I could read the post and I did very often. I could not post a PM or click on anybodys name for any info. I believe it was either 2015 or 16 I was blocked. I follow everybodys post, but unable to post. Can't tell you how many times I wanted to post or ask a question. Never thought I would be able to post again I never jotted down my questions to remember. When I was blocked there were several people that have long left the site. Many I wonder about often. Yes Sue and I were close on the site. Probably because I was her first responder. Our diagnosis were close as well. RCVP was our treatment. I don't know how strict the administration is about blocked members posting again so if I stop posting you will know why. If that happens just want all to know I read the post often and never really left. I am sure Max knows who I am. That little girl is 9 years old now and is beautiful She is my sweetheart. She is the only girl grandchild. the other 5 are all boys and love them all. Use my name whenever you like. Alot of people asked me why I used the 666. I did not do it intentually, It was actually 66. I could not sign in one time and the site keep saying someone had that name. I added a 6 and it let me post. Never gave it a thought it was the 3 sixes. I was stuck with it. Used the 3 sixes this time cause I knew it would stick out to the old group. I have noticed there are just a few old timers left posting. The others have drifted away for some reason or the other. I wish them all good luck.

Been in remission since October 2010 with no farther problems. I see where they are making great strides in the lymphoma and other cancers all the time.

Like Becky, as soon as I saw your new name I knew our wishes had come true.

So many peope were outraged at the Moderators. Several people quit on the spot.

I could not be happier !

Hey Max, I knew you'd know who it was. Can't tell you how many times I wanted to ask you a question after you posted, but was unable too. There have been a few post from newbies that were right up my alley, but could not respond. When they boot you off they don't play around. I read all the post and have since I have been off the site. I don't get on every day, but when I do I catch up on all the post. Your post as well as some of the other ones are so enlighting to us all. Just hope they don't boot me again. There have been so many to just disappear, but so many really depend on this site. I know I do. When the post start to mount up then you can tell who the people are that depend on forums like this. I did talk to Sue right after I was removed. She was upset about it. She stopped posting not long after that. Wish I could get in touch with her somehow. I know she moved to Hood River, Oregon. I have posted about 5 times since yesterday to some of the old crew that was here the last time I posted 2-3 years ago. It does feel good to be back.

I tried going to the about me page right after I was kicked off to pm the members , but I was denied any access. Other wise I would have kept in touch with everyone.

This is that little girl that I had on my site when I was booted off way back when. Now you can see why she is my sweetheart.

Of course she was back then too.  So happy to see the new photo.  You are such a good Grandpa.  Sorry , I meant to get this off sooner.  I want you to know that I wrote to CSN in your behalf but it didn't work Frown.  Just glad to have you back.
