I had to start really slow. Just a small amount, hold and spit. Then gradually worked up to swish and spit. Eventually was able to do the recommended dose but was never able to gargle or swallow. 

Hope you find a way to make it work for you! It is a great help down the road.

Numbing effect

Hi,

Yes, I take something called magic swizzle which I think is the same stuff.  But your mouth does feel numb like when you go to the dentist. Makes it hard to feel the food on your tongue. Maybe because my taste is already gone, it doesn't gag me, but not a pleasant experience but it is helping me to eat so I won't complain too much about it.

My Dearest Charmit,

You are using my most favorite side effect treatment of all of them for me.  I had three, Lorazepam (for my anxiety, which you proved to be at peace with,  GOOD FORYOU), Silver Sulfadiazine Cream (for neck burn, hands down the  most pain of treatment for me, but the cream made it all go away) and my crutch, my favorite  and my selection for the Cancer Side Effects Treatment of The Year 2012,  Magic Mouth Wash, Oregon Vintage.  For those who got no thrill or help from their magic mouth wash, I feel bad and I have felt bad in the past for them, but there are other concoctions for the H&N members to try.  You are a little early in the game for me, but we all go different paths when the bullets start flying.

I consumed 6 bottles, I used it to the max for my throat, tongue and mouth discomfort.  I did not care for it at first, I thought it was awful (quite disgusting), but I got over it and went on to sip, swish and swallow every drop; I did not spit it out.  I did not keep video of my applications and I may have spit some out but my normal application was to fill that little tube (provided with mine) and in the mouth all the MMW went in my mouth for some time in the first room of sores and discomfort, then a swish around and little tiny swallows.  When at my best, when I had my radiation procedure down, I would take a hit in the parking lot outside of rads, I have been known to take a hit at my parents’ home when visiting them.

You may never make friends with this stuff like I did, but I got along pretty good with treatments. I was told I looked like s _ _ _. A few times and I probably did, but come on, give us a break.

Around 10 or 11 months post, I got a bad sore throat and I had one unopened bottle of Magic Mouth Wash and it made an on chore performance for my comfort.

Got to get outside for another couple of hours of “working in the yard”.

Week two tomorrow and I’m as nervous as last Sunday...not the treatments but how they will leave me feeling. Have to get a grip and just pray I guess.

no pain , no gain, that is silly! NO PAIN is H&N GAIN! YEAH!

Maybe you need a shot of red-eye to get you there (where ever that is).

Neither of you got to sample an application of the February 2012 Good Samaritan, Compounding Pharmacy, Magic Mouth Wash, which I feel for after a night of finagling, taking a dose meant too really help, because I needed help amd boy was I satisfied.  Many members on here want to scream “This (magic mouth wash, Lidocaine, Lorazepam, Zofran, Fentanyl patches, Boost, a game of nude Frisbee (are you paying attention) worked for me; I want all new H&N members to try this!!!”

Well, I will hope the next H&N member to follow the sign saying GO THIS WAY, NO THROAT, MOUTH IR TONGUE DISCOMFORT,  are not being fooled, because being fooled and joked with is the downside if not the evil side of cancer.

Boy, my mouth dried out today, I wonder what Sprint Car Dude and SuzJ would use? I like them, they are like me (a real H&N aficionado).

I never have the reason to sample your private vintage MMW. Mine was also compounded but I just could not stomach it. I hate to admit that I would pour some down the drain every day so that my loved ones thought I was using it. Being an ER nurse I have learned from the best. I did religously use the baking soda, salt and water gargles.  I would do a shot of olive oil to moisten up my oral pharynx as needed. Mostly just good old water. It all helped the opiod effects of slow intestines as well.  And I will absolutely not play Commando Frisby with you.. With someone yes.

Magic Mouthwash

You are still so early in the game. The first two - three weeks into treatment I was cruising like nothing. even teaching kindergarten every day. Then on Monday, after three weeks, I was getting ready for school and went to tell my wife goodbye and nothing came out. I immediately called for a sub and I haven't been back since. Today was Day 32 of 33 and I know it may take a few more weeks till I return to school if at all before summer. Guess what, I dont get paid either. I asked the doctor when I could return and he said it is up to you. Thank you Doc I didnt go to school for 10 years for this stuff like you did, give me some encouragement. He did kid me about my attitude the first few weeks when I was cruising through like "I've got this"

Lidocaine

is the key ingredient in my batch. That is the numbing effect. Mine also has benadryl and malox (sp)
