The 700 Club (IV vitamin C)

My wife has had 700 infusions of IV vitamin C, a rather high cu.mulative number. The past 100 infusions have been with 30-65 grams of vitamin C (30,000-65,000mg), 3 to 7 days apart. Since her infusions are peripheral rather than port based, the nurse's insertion skill becomes more  important as she climbs the accumulated experience curve and ages on chemo.

Including IV vitamin C along with her daily 5FU tx has given her many advantages over conventional medicine's oncology treatments including increased wellbeing and functionality, much less illness, doing without heavy chemo components, many fewer and much less side effects, and lower costs.   

Although I absolutely would not suggest solo IV vitamin C for colon cancer treatment except perhaps hospice, likewise I would not do chemo without the C infusions in common recurrent, fatal mCRC forms such as she has.

This year we've had a pretty interesting demonstration of dose and the power of vitamin C added to immunochemo.  My wife's IV vitamin C dose had dropped lower, to about 30 grams per infusion for well over a year.  This year, I found that a little used alternative biomarker for colon cancer, AFP, more often used for liver cancer, that I still checked rarely, had risen over 30 fold from her original baseline. E.g. analogously, if you started with a post-surgical baseline CEA of 0.5 or 1 and if it rose to a CEA of 15 or 30, most patients and doctors would be rightly concerned. Two possible interpretations are that her residual colon cancer (micro?)mets are trying to evolve through another pathway, or possibly the rise of a second primary cancer, like liver cancer.   

In any case, we increased her infusion back to 50 grams  and then lately, 60 grams of IV vitamin C again.  At 50 grams her biomarker went down 45+% and stalled at 19x-20x baseline from a peak at 34.5x and 36x baseline. A month ago, we increased IV C to 60 grams (60,000 mg) and now AFP has decreased ~75% to 9x baseline, now within the normal range.  

Again, I don't want anyone to think a little "vitamin C cures colon cancer". Vitamin C works in combinations under specific conditions.   My wife takes a lot of other things that are active against her colon cancer, and to a lesser extent, liver cancer.  I do look askance at "medical authorities" who make the various negative comments about vitamin C, showing off their total ignorance and/or their biases, both personal and commercial.
