Prayers please. Donating my kidney transplant next week!

Hi Everyone!

I was approved as a kidney donor for my son and the surgery is on the 25th of July which is next Wed. I am so grateful to this site because without it I would have never explored the possibility that I could be approved. As some of you know, my bc was discovered during my donor screening 3 1/2 years ago. I had stage 1, estrogen receptive, node negative cancer. Just lumpectomy and radiation. Sue had written that she had a similar diagnosis and she was approved as a blood donor. That prompted me to call and start the process with Yale New Haven Hospital all over again. They did a national search to determine the risks and after a full medical screening of me, the medical board came to the conclusion that the risk was no greater than with a cadaver donor. Because we are a good match, he would need fewer anti-rejection drugs. That was the best news ever!

    Oh, Roseann--what a special gift
    for your precious child. So glad you are able to do this--I know it must mean the world to you. You and your son will be in my prayers for a successful surgery and a swift recovery for both of you.

    I have thought of you and your Son often (in prayers too).

    It is a bit unique (to me anyway) that just before I logged on here now, I had just called the Blood Bank for my next appt - it will be July 25 so ya'll will definately be on my mind while donating. Don't know why I picked that date but I did.

    That's amazing!
    I can't thank you enough for posting about your ability to donate blood. Did you ever imagine that one post could have such a huge impact on someone's life? This transplant not only helps my son but it moves someone else up one on the transplant list. The power of sharing goes on and on! I'll keep you posted.

    At a loss for words! I am so happy for you and your son!!!! Will keep you both in my prayers...post when you're up to it....what a wonderful gift...there's no end to a Mother's love...

    This is so wonderful
    on so many levels. Do you think the hospital would mind if we hopped on the pink bus in our cheerleading outfits and showed up for a little support for this event? We won't behave, but this is such a victory, it deserves a celebration.
