To begin with, trust me, the chat room here is far superior to the one in facebook, far, far superior. Other comparisons, however, do indeed leave the CSN site on the short end in the many ways pointed out herein. The entire site can be down, the Chat Room can be down, both can be extremely slow to get into, and if you are not aware of the primary prerequisite for getting into the Chat Room, it is likely you will never get in.

If you are unable to get into the Chat Room, the most likely culprit is that you do not have Java Runtime on your computer (this is software that is needed to talk to the chat server), or your version of Java is out-of-date. The easy and zero-expense fix for this is to go to www.java.com and perform the download. When asked if you want to save it or run it (the download) select Run. This will allow you to download and run the program that updates your computer with the latest version of the Java application you need.

The folks that operate the site have been advised of the issues above and I'm sure that they have done all within their power to fix whatever they can. We can only hope that if these problems continue to exist it is because they are spending their money on things that will be more important to survivors and caregivers in the long run. We can hope.

In the meantime, if you update your Java and still cannot get into the Chat Room, please do not hesitate to contact me directly via the CSN email and maybe we can resolve your issues in that regard.

Personally, by the way, I am on FB, originally so that I could have easy access to family members and particularly to photos of my grandchildren, and now as a conduit to any number of former CSN regulars of many cancer varieties that I no longer see here regularly. I find it quite useful in every way BUT the chat feature.
