hangin in after neck dissection

Options
Updating on Neil..about 3 weeks ago he had a modified radical neck dissection. Chemo was not affecting his lymphnode at all, so this seemed like the next thing to do. They took out 77 lymphnodes and had to take out quite a bit of muscle. Pathology report showed Thyroid cancer, so now we are on the path to find out more about this new development. Neil is now in physical therapy and still maintains a very positive attitude while awaiting an ultrasound for his thyroid on Friday.

    Good Attitude
You know it's important that his attitude is good - glad he's got a positive outlook. As for the node not responding to chemo - before I even started treatment, my potential surgeon let me know that lymph nodes often aren't "fixed" with chemo and radiation (I had two affected nodes - one "did not have complete response", so I had the mrdc). Hope he keeps up his positive mindset (and hope it's contagious).

    Hi Mysty

Happy to hear that Neil is able to maintain a positive attitude through all of this. As most of us know, the waiting is the hardest part but staying positive will help him through this.

Hoping for good news on Friday.

    Positive attitude
I think a positive attitude gets you through the day but it is ok to feel bad and negative at times. Allow yourself and Neil to be sad at times. Karen

    @ Pam - I was never told
@ Pam - I was never told that nodes ofter aren't fixed with chemo & rads. It looks like for most fols on the board, it worked for them. My husband did not have anything removed prior to chemo and rads. His doctors said that everything looked good. We will know more pretty soon. He goes for his one month follow up on the 22nd.
