Cyberknife tomorrow!

Hello friends. After a bit of waiting, I am finally starting my Cyberknife treatment - tomorrow morning. I just got the call today. This is for a bone met which is too close for comfort to my spinal cord (I'm still aysymptomatic at this stage -- no pain or other symptoms).

Curious if others have had Cyberknife for bone mets....

Also, I'm apparently going to have 5 sessions (my oncologist originally thought 3, but now revising to 5). This is apparently for safety reasons. I don't quite understand but will ask. Wondering if others had multiple blasts.

I'm very fortunate in that the hospital is only a 20 minute drive from my home.

After the cyberknife will come a new chemo regime - FOLFOXFIRI (as I mentioned a couple of weeks ago -- now seems to be confirmed). Oncologist says its fairly toxic -- but I've had all the ingredients before (just not all together) so I'm feeling reasonably confident....On On!

    I'm understandably concerned for this new chemo combination, Tara. We know how each one is on its own, but the 2 together, I've got my reservations on how hard this will be for you to tolerate and for how long.

    I'm pulling for you and hoping your medical team will keep you closely monitored for side effects during this regime. And I sincerely hope that this will be able to help you.

    My latest fight involved a big tumor next to the spine as well, so I understand your concern as well.

    Best wishes for successful cyberknife. Folfoxfiri sounds mean but if that is what you have to do, then one step at a time.

    Thanks for your concern about the chemo regime, Craig. Actually, I will be hospitalized for the chemo ("48 hours", which as we all know actually means 50+). My doctor is a little conservative that way but under the circumstances probably not a bad thing....I've had mild allergic reactions to oxaliplatin before, so I don't mind some careful monitoring on that front. I'll do 3-4 then have a scan, and probably due no more than 6-8 cycles in total....

    A friend of mine has had lots of FOLFOXFIRI. He's tolerated it reasonably well.

    Many thanks Roger. I don't know of anyone who has had this 'cocktail' before so it is great to hear your friend has, and has tolerated it reasonably well. I plan to follow in his footsteps!

    Hi Tara,
    By now you have started your cyberknife treatment. I hope it is going well.

    I had cyberknife for a lung met and had 5 sessions. It was my understanding that 5, at least for a lung met, was more than usual.

    Folfoxfiri sounds extremely toxic to me, just based on my own experience. I hope that you tolerate it well because I bet it will kick some butt.

    Hi Tara,

    I've had cyberknife for lung mets but not for bone. It was easy to tolerate and my results were good, too. I have also been on FOLFOXIRI and, having been on the other cocktails in various forms through the years, haven' had any trouble with it.
