Dear Mary Ann...here is hoping that all is well with you. You are in my prayers too!!!

I'm here again with my news!!
Thanks Ro, Jan, Suze, Karen and Norma, You are all very sweet.

It's been a crazy few weeks. Here's the story:

My doc says I have a recurrence. I finally met with him on Monday. The One hot spot on the recent PET - a lymph node - was surgically removed & was positive for endometrial cancer in the subclavian (by the collarbone) lymph node. I requested several time for the functional profile but they said they did not have enough tissue to do it. My gyn/onc says he doesn't think it is necessary since I had it before (probably trying to appease me).

Options are: 1) watch and wait; 2) chemo with carbo/taxol + avastin; 3)radiation. My doc recommended the watch and wait with more frequent blood work and exams - I agreed. He cited the toxicity of chemo and damage of radiation as reasons to not do them until something else shows up. I will be checking my lymph nodes very well since it seems to be hanging out in my lymph system according to the PET scans I've had.

I have also consulted a alternative healing practitioner (he's a chiropractor and does nutritional work too) and he has me on a pretty strict diet - much like Kulka (jana) and Claudia practice - and supplements (turkey tail mushroom, astragulus, E and selenium, lipotrope, DIM, and D3). He talked about most all of the things that we have here - the p53 gene, tumeric, Vit D, alkaline environment - so I think he knows what he's talking about. He cited many amazing recoveries that he has witnessed. So I figure it can't hurt. I've lost weight (a good thing because I still need to lose more)- there's not much fattening food on this diet except nuts.

I will continue massage and get back into regular exercise, yoga, meditation and healing touch (I just had a session today). Tomorrow I'm going to request shorter work hours. I also decided that starting this year I am throwing myself a birthday party/celebrate life party. All of you are invited - SW FL last weekend in July!! Email me if you want my address!!

So that's it in a nutshell. Thanks again for your concern. I love you all.

So glad to see your post!
I have been checking over and over to see if you'd popped in and posted with an update. Sounds like you have a plan. I like your 'watch and wait' decision and think I should have been less eager to jump into the weekly taxol last time, and will not be as gung-ho next time to return to treatment. I may also give the altrenative diet-treatment a more serious try than I have been. (I drink the green tea and take the tumeric/olive oil/pepper, but I also never turn down cheesecake or tiramiso and can't imagine giving up coffee!!)

So glad to hear from you Mary Ann
Glad to hear you have a plan, too. The wait and watch is probably what my onocologist would probably recommend also if that lymph node is the only place that showed up, and they removed it already. He keeps on saying to save the chemo for when it is needed most. How often will you have the follow-up lab and exams?

Good luck with your dietary changes, too. Lets hope you can be another of those "amazing recoveries" for us to witness. The exercise, yoga and meditation and less hours of work sound good, too. Take one day at a time and enjoy each day.

Glad you are going to have a Celebrate Life Party. Hope I can help you celebrate again when we return to Florida in the fall. In peace and caring.

Thanks for the invitation. Wish I could come to your party. Glad you posted your news, although not glad about a recurrance for you. Sounds like the doc is saving the heavy artillery, chemo and radiation. Which to me would mean good news. Hope your body fights it off using the nutritional and spiritual healing. You are an inspiration, Mary Ann. Will be thinking of you everytime I make my turmeric, pepper and egg (organic) omelet in the mornings....{{{hugs}}} PS..my teeth are turning yellow...my dentist is going to have a fit.

Mary Ann, although the news was not what I was hoping for, it sounds like you have a very good plan and have been hard at it! I am always impressed with how organized and calm you are as you evaluate information. One cool headed lady!!

Your lifestyle changes sound good.....Not sure I could handle the diet you are currently on. Is this a strictly vegan diet? Hopefully you get to eat some things that you enjoy!

Am interested to hear about the additional steps you have added on your journey to overcome this cancer thing!

Thanks for the invitation to your Life Party....I will be there "virtually". Celebrate like never before!! Big HUGS to you! Karen

    follow-up schedule
I will have CA125 and HE4 every 6 weeks (it was every 8 weeks) and exam every 12 (it was every 16 weeks). I asked the doc about my crazy CA125 which DROPPED to 31 BEFORE the surgery. He said we will look at TRENDS not each individual test.

If anyone wants a copy of the diet I am following, I'd be glad to send you info. Maybe I can scan it and email it - I'll check that out. It is actually more strict that the Anticancer book.

We also chatted about the letter I sent him. I was pleased that all my correspondence was right in the front of my chart with his initials showing he read them. (I've started faxing my questions and requests instead of calling - paper trail!!). I asked him if he was irritated with me and he said no, he admired my "intensity".

Wishing all of you strength, hope, and faith for this journey. Mary Ann (daisyelder@comcast.net)

Thanks for the compliment but I was anything but cool-headed two weeks ago waiting for the PET results.

The diet is not totally vegan - some chicken and fish are permitted. Eggs are permitted. NO SUGAR!!!! NO MICROWAVE!!!! Juicing is supposed to be daily thing. I'm just getting started on that. All and all I feel and look good. I need to update my picture here!!

A comment you made really put a smile on my face. You mentioned that your doctor recommended the same or similar things to what's been recognized here, so that's how you knew he was a good reputable doctor. Gotta love ya.

I'll be looking into things for you and get back to soon via email.

    love and oodles of kisses,

would love it if you emailed me a copy of the diet. thanks a heap

    watch and wait

    mary ann,

i'm sorry to hear you've had a recurrence, though glad to hear it was only in one spot and has been removed. i'm especially glad to hear your doctor is taking a wait and see approach. my doctor has said that they're finding that doctors have been rushing in to have chemo done, and that in many cases, there's no real difference between doing chemo immediately and waiting awhile--how long would be individually determined. i'm glad you're trying this new diet and are getting back into exercise, yoga, meditation, etc., i do think that is the way, though have not been serious about doing these myself until recently--6 months post chemo. i'm having my first ct scan post treatment next week, and if i should have a recurrence, will definitely try to hold out for alternative treatment for as long as possible, before i would have chemo/radiation. i would really want to give alternative treatment a chance to work.

thanx for letting us know what's been going on; a lot of us have been looking for your post, as you can see. keep taking care of yourself, and know i, along with many others, will be attending your bd party virtually. sending you my very best.

    sisterhood,

    Mary Ann
