Anchor Harry Smith will have a colonoscopy live on the CBS Early Show March 10. He plans to tell viewers about the procedure while it is happening.

Evening News anchor and managing editor Katie Couric will be with Smith during the colonoscopy and as he prepares for it the night before.

Gastroenterologist Dr. Mark Pochapin will do the procedure at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center.

Katie Couric had a screening colonoscopy on the air in 2000 which is credited with a 20 percent increase in the number of colonoscopies performed across the United States. It has been dubbed the “Couric Effect.”

After losing her husband, Jay Monahan, to colon cancer in 1998, Couric has become a leading advocate in the fight against the disease.

Listen to folk singer Peter Yarrow, of Peter, Paul & Mary, sing the Colonoscopy Song.

Yarrow and CBS teamed up to deliver the message that getting a regular colonoscopy saves lives.

Although they “found a polyp hiding, they caught it just in time.”

Colon Cancer Alliance Rings the NASDAQ Bell

In celebration of Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, members of the Colon Cancer Alliance rang the closing bell for NASDAQ on March 2.

CCA CEO Andrew Spiegel was joined by staff, board members, and colon cancer survivors for the closing ceremony.

Watch a clip of the ceremony on Facebook.c

Andy Spiegel said,

We’re excited that the NASDAQ recognized March as Colon Cancer Awareness Month in such a public manner. Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in the U.S., affecting 1 in 19 Americans. The disease is almost entirely preventable through screening, yet only about half of those who should be tested actually get screened. 50,000 Americans die each year from colorectal cancer and we are now at a critical juncture that requires greater public awareness and support — NASDAQ’s help in increasing awareness was invaluable.

    The Harry Smith's
Maybe they used a stunt double?
I want to know how they could tell his head from his butt?
They probably went with the hairier end!

Katie Couric already did the scope.
What's next, a reality show called "I'm a Celebrity and get this Colonoscopy scope outta me!"

Now if Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez did it they would have had a three camera shoot!

    OK, I'll stop now...

    God Bless both Harry and
God Bless both Harry and Katie for getting the word out and promoting screening.

I'm also grateful that Harry's scope was clear. He had a wonderful looking colon! LOL
