Well so much for feeling good! I ended up leaving work at 8 last night, coming home with the same ole headache and puking! I haven't eaten in three days. Ended up in the hospital, IV's and anti headache meds. I really do not think I can go through with this. I would rather succomb to the Cancer than these side effects. I do not have the cancer now, and was feeling so good before all of this. I cannot handle nausea. I can smell everything in my home and it is nasty. Carlie

I'm so sorry you are so sick. I didn't have the strong chemo ... that you must be getting ... so I can't give you any advice ... except for hang in there ... I'm sure someone on the discussion board will get back to you soon and hopefully help you feel better and give you the encouragement you need to get through this.

All I can do is say I'm thinking of you ... and hope you feel better soon.

    Hang in there!

    hugs.

    That's how I was. Really
That's how I was. Really sick. I'd only throw up the day of chemo tho. Just felt like it for days after. What seemed to help was eating a cracker. The onc nurse said keeping something in my stomach would help. It's worse when your stomach is empty. So I ate crackers and fried rice. I really liked the kind from the restaurant. It was odd eating when I didn't feel like it but it did seem to help.

    Carlie,
Are you on anti-nausea meds--if you are not then I would call the oncologist office and get some--and if you are on some call them any way and tell them that they are not working for you.

No one should be sick when on chemo treatments these days.

I hope you feel better real soon.

    Hugs,

NO! NO! NO!!! It would not
NO! NO! NO!!! It would not be better to succumb to the cancer~ no matter how much puking you are doing. The cure is not worse than the disease! I am so very sorry that you are having a hard time with the treatments; but sweetie, it truly will not be forever! Each one down is one less you have to go through.

I know you are keeping your medical team in the loop and they willl do everything in their power to keep you from being so ill.

    Hugs to you,

No one should be sick these days from chemo. I would all Your Onc. or chemo nurses and let them know, I am sure they will prescribe something.
I got a headache from losing my hair but that wasn't until abut 3 weeks from my first treatment.
    Hope you get better.

    Carlie,

Call you oncologist and demand anti nausea meds, be sure to take them before you feel sick. Also Marcia is right, I felt much better if I had something in my stomach, I know it sounds crazy but you do feel better. Crackers, flat ginger ale and ice really helped me. Ginger supplements helped with the nausea also. I am now on a continuos patch called Sancusco so I always get a dose of the meds trans dermal. I made the mistake of waiting till I felt ill to take the meds, so now I don't need to judge it because I have a continous dose. I hope you will feel better soon, when I was on AC I would feel better about five days after chemo. Love Surf

    Thanks gals!
My oncologist did give me antinausea meds. The Aloxi that was put in my IV before chemo, we think caused the headaches. I do have some ativan on hand now. I have my friend picking me up some rice, so we will see how I do. I am On AC too, that is a tough combo I guess. Carlie

    woodsgal--try to hang in there...
I had my surgery in '07 and chemo a couple of months later.

I was miserably sick, but as the primary provider for my family, I had to still go to work. I had to borrow time for leave (it took me two years to pay it back) because I had used up all my accumluated sick leave. It was not uncommon for me to throw-up right there in the classroom (behind my desk) and for my sweet special ed kids to go running down the hall to get another teacher to help me. It was not uncommon for me to be wheeled into the nurses's station and have my daughter paged to the office so she could take me home. If I did not have her driving me to and from work, I doubt if would not have been able to work at all. I was in the hospital more times than I care to remember with blood clots, nausea, and dehydration. Once my onc, the one I later fired, told me, "I don't know what more I can do for you." What a jerk!

Before I fired him, however, my onc finally found a nausea med that worked, but it took awhile.

I decided that I would never go through this again, but then realized that my daughter and husband (and now my sweet German Shepherd pup, Emmy, needed me). If I had to, I would do it again.

I thought it was so unfair that another person at work was able to work throughout her chemo treatments with few side effects (not that I would wish the same thing on her as what happened to me). I just didn't understand why I had to suffer so much.

I was given pre-meds for nausea (taken a couple days before each chemo), a pre-med just before chemo started, meds during chemo, and meds after chemo. Did they work? Well, I would hate to think what would have happened if I wasn't given these meds. When the taxol started, it wasn't as bad, but I was so tired that when I finally got home from work I just crashed.

I'm telling you this, because I want you to know that you are not alone. Others have been through exactly what you are describing and we are here to talk about it.

Chemo is a toxin that is fighting another toxin. It wasn't meant to be easy, but you (we) have to be fighters.

If you decide to quit, that's always your choice to make, because Carlie, you've started so you will always have the choice to stop. You've started and no one is going to tell you that you HAVE TO continue. We will tell you that we will be with you every step of the way. We will ask you to try and make it through this first round. We will tell you, though it's hard to believe right now, that before you know it all of this will all be over, vambush!, ancient history.

Regardless of what you decide to do Carlie, you are a fighter in my book.

    Hi Carlie
Im on A/c and get my 4th treatment tomorrow then I switch to taxol/herceptin. I get 2 antinausea meds plus decadron before they even give me the chemo then they send me home with a drug called emend which I take on day 1 and day 2 after chemo. I start feeling like I am having morning sickness about 2 days after chemo and my appetite isnt good for about 5 to 6 days where I have to force myself to eat. I am also pretty tired the week after chemo but start coming around about 7 days later.

You cant give up...this is no picnic but I promise you that each day out from chemo you will start to feel better. But you have to try to eat and you have to drink. Try some jello or popsicles...remember that you should have at least 8 to 10 8 oz glasses of liquids to flush all the chemo from your body.

    Hang in there

Hi Carlie, I am on a drug
Hi Carlie, I am on a drug called Emend as well as sofran and compozine. The emend is taken 1 hour before chemo, the sofran is taken that night and every 12 hours for 3 days, the emend like I said right before chemo treatment the the next day and then the next. 3 days on both, followed by compozine if needed. Plus I get the IV meds for this to. I am doing fine on the nausea. I get tired and just don't feel well for a few days and then I am fine again. Food is a problem, just don't feel like eating. Talk to your doctor, you should not have to go through this like you are. Good Luck and let us know how your doing.

    Nausea Meds
Hi. I have one more chemo to go & had quite a bit of nausea after each treatment even with the anti-nausea meds I was given by IV along with the chemo meds. My oncologist then gave me a tablet packet of Emend & it really helped stop the nausea. It makes you very tired, but if you have to choose tired or sick to your stomach, right now you just make think that being tired is OK. With the Emend, you take one pill an hour before chemo, then another pill the next morning & the last pill the next morning. It's supposed to stop you from even feeling nausea in the 1st place rather than trying to get rid of it after you already have it. See if your oncologist will OK it for you. Good luck....Andrea. Hang in there, honey!!

Carlie, I too had a rough
Carlie, I too had a rough time with chemo. I was ill for days after and then would also get delayed nausea 5 days later. After my 3rd treatment, I too contemplated stopping treatment. I just didn't want to go back. I had 5 more treatments to go but it could have been 50 as far as I was concerned. Days before each infusion I would get nervous and nauseaus because I knew what was coming.

But, ultimately I knew that as miserable as treatment was, a cancer recurrence would be more horrible. I knew that I had to do whatever I could to reduce the chance of that happening. It seems like the light at the end of the tunnel is forever away, but please know that you can get through this. Think about stopping treatment very carefully. This window of opportunity for adjuvent therapy is a one time deal.

You can do this. Stay strong. Eil

    Carli,
    Please do not give

    Carli,
Please do not give up, you will get through this. I will send some positive energy your way, think happy thoughts. I liked to think about the summers as a kid, Christmas morning, my mom's blueberry pancakes.
