Hi. I am from Ontario. I was diagnosed last November with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. I had a lumpectomy just before Christmas with 3 lymph nodes removed. I am now sceduled for a mastectomy the day after tomorrow. They will be doing a tissue exam to see if I have a different cancer. They thought I might possible have Inflammatory Breast Cancer as my breast was very swollen and sore. I had to discontinue my radiation treatments as the pain was so severe. I am currently on oxycontin, lyrica and percosets. Hoping to get off these. But I will continue to have pain from nerve damage that happened under my arm. I get a little depressed and scared sometimes. I'm 60 and I know I should be coping better, but I am not.

    Welcome
    Hi Mexicali,
I just want to welcome you. You will find many amazing people here who "have been through it" or are "going through it" to walk with you each step of the way. I will be thinking of you and praying for you for your surgery on Thursday (I will be in chemo that day).

    Here is where Hope Lives,
    KC

Why on earth should you be coping better, sweetie? I am almost your age ( I will be, next month) and I would not be handling the situation any differently than you are. Pain is so debilitating, and colors so much of our emotions. I hope that when you beat this cancer, you especially get the needed pain relief, so that you can spend the next 30 years of your life, ENJOYING being a victorious survivor!

One thing is for sure~ you are now surrounded by a group of loving, supportive Kindred Spirits, so feel free to post and read here anytime!

    Hugs,
    Claudia

Thank you so very much. I
Thank you so very much. I have had horrific panic attacks where I just felt so all alone and so very frightened. I just cried and cried and cried. I thought I had no more tears, then another torrent. It feels so good to know that I am not alone. I will come back on here as soon as I can after my surgery. Thanks everyone and BIG HUGS to you all.

    Welcome, Mexicali_Rose
We're all here to support and encourage each other. Glad you found us, glad to have you.

Depressed? Scared? We understand, and all can relate to your feelings. You'll often read the term "emotional rollercoaster" here on the board. We all ride it.

Major changes in treatment plan, and facing a 2nd (and unexpected) surgery? So sorry for these complications. However, I think you're "coping" better than you're giving yourself credit for...

Best wishes for your surgery on Thursday. I'll be hoping for the best possible outcome.

Hang in there Rose. I know
Hang in there Rose. I know its scary and exhausting going through this but you did it before and you can make it again. Try and muster all your strength and hold tight to it. Do you have friends and/or family to turn to?

Will Be Thinking of You on Thursday
Mexicali-Rose, I will be thinking of you and hoping that no cancer is found. And I second Claudia: why should you be coping "better?" You're in pain, scared and down. Everyone here knows what that is like. All any of us can do is the best we can. And sometimes, the best we can do is to get through a day, an hour, a minute, at a time.

So, please don't put pressure on yourself to feel or act the way you think you ought to. You are surviving the best you know how. And that's good enough.

That is what I was diagnosed with. I will be 60 in October. They caught it early, it's only a centimeter in size so they tell me. I have my lumpectomy on Thursday. I know my surgeon is doing the sentinal node thingy. He is one of the best in my area. He has also been working on a breat cancer vaccine. He told me my lump was too small. He needs at least 3 cms.
As far as nerve damage? I'm no stranger to that. My cervical laminectomy in 2000 left me with nerve damage in my left arm. My left hand feels like I have novacaine in it all the time. My upper back is stiff from the 7 inch cut down to my spinal cord. They debulked a couple of neurofibromas. I was hoping to be done with dang surgeries!
What ever happens I wish you the very best.
