Well. I'm still smiling but it's bad news. I have 10 new tumors. 4 in my left lung, one in my right. Plus 5 in my liver. The results seemed puzzling since my last CT scan in April showed only one possibly tiny spot in each lung. I start chemo on monday. I would have had my Thyroid and lung tumors taken out at the end of the month but the liver involvement has pushed that back at least three months. This recent set back is worrisome. I don't know how much longer folfox is going to be effective. I've had 9 rounds. I don't respond to folfiri at all. They did the KRAS study and I probably won't respond to erbitux. So this could be my last stand. Luckily all my tumors are resectable. My lung tumors are small and on the outer perimeter of my lungs. My surgeon said they wouldn't be a problem. The tumors in the liver are confined to one lobe and he said he would remove the entire lobe if necessary. So I still have a shot, but this could very well be my last. Hopefully I will continue to respond well to the chemo long enough to get things turned around. If nothing else I was NED for about a week.

    Oh, man!
    Hi John,

I'm sorry to hear it- I am thinking of you and am pulling for you. If nothing else has been gained through going through cancer treatments, it's definitely a "toughening" process. We learn to deal with crappy news and still go on. I've discovered I'm now a lot better at dealing with setbacks or difficult situations in other areas of life now than my husband is or any of my other family members are. Dealing with "the beast" has "helped" me deal with many things in life now. It definitely does suck, though- man, I feel your disappointment and pain, and I'm "kicking cans" for you.
You take care and keep at it- you just never know- you may have a miraculous response to the chemo this time!

    Blessings,
    Lisa

    Don't Give Up!
You never know, the next or so chemo treatments may work also! keep thinking positive, I know harder said then done, but with bad there's good somewhere! Don't let this news get you down too much, maybe you could always go for a second opinion elsewhere if they think they done all they can??? I know I would! I'm so sorry for this setback, just keep your chin up, and know we're all still here for you! You will still be in my thoughts and prayers!

    Hugsss!

    Damn it
Sorry John, I really hated to hear your news. I hope you will respond to the chemo and the surgery will be a success. We will all be pulling for you so keep us updated. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. Don't give up.
I don't know much about other treatments so I'm not much help. My huband is on FOLFOX + Avastin now. He will have it six months and he says a round is two treatments?? He isn't here now so I can't ask. I'm sure you know more because you have been through so much already. Anyway stay strong and don't give up. Paula G.

    John..... Boxing Glove Time
I know you won't give up hope because in just the short time I have read your posts I hear your strength.

"IT'S NOT THE SIZE OF THE DOG IN THE FIGHT ..... IT'S THE SIZE OF THE FIGHT IN THE DOG"!!!

By the way, my oncologist back in Illinois is working on a clinical trial for stage IV peoples who are not responding to any current chemo's and he said he is having a good success rate. New things are on the horizon.

    Take care

    I think anything that is
I think anything that is resectable still leaves a chance for cure or at least long term remission. I am sorry to hear the news but there is always hope.

    Jennie - Considering your
Jennie - Considering your state of mind when you began this journey I am glad to see that you are in such a positive frame of mind. Apparently full of vinegar and ready to fight. Don`t use the boxing gloves. Take them off and don`t pull any punches.

    John,

I'm sorry that new tumors showed up on your PET. You have always been an inspiration to me. Your fighting attitude reminds me of The Four Agreements, written by don Miguel Ruiz. 1) Be impeccable with your word; 2) Don't take anything personally; 3) Don't make assumptions; and 4) Always do your best.

    Together in hope,
    Susan

Eric touched base when he said my state of mind has changed drastically since I first came on board here. Buzzard said get "pissed" at this disease..... and I did... and it helped. I no longer feel sorry for myself... I thrive off of strength that people like yourself have given me. The knowledge I gain here is pnenominal(sp?) Keep your head up....it will be ok
