OK I'm eightteen years old and a fourteen year cancer survivor (ALL) I had a Bone Marrow Transplant in 1996 at Duke University Medical Center and I was wondering if any one else has had the same experence as me going through a transplant and has it effected the way that you lose weight compared to those that are healthy and can do regular diet and exercise.Cause it hasn't worked for me and I'm overweight with multiple health problems due to the massive total body radiation that I went through for the transplant. If you have any other ideas on how people like us can lose the weight and feel healthy please share them with me I would really appreciate it very much.

You are not being ignored, William. I do not have an answer for your question, or even a proposition, other than to suggest that you talk to your doctors again, with the specific aim of working on this issue.

If you are no longer seeing doctors on a regular basis, I would advise a physical therapist, explaining your history and what you want your future to be.

Good luck!

Take care,

Here is an article which speaks to some side-effects of BMT, including water retention and weight gain:

You might wish to print it out and take it with you the next time you visit your doctor. You could mail him a copy prior to your appointment with a note asking him about what can be done to safely alleviate the weight gain and other concerns.

Love and Courage!
