I'm so excited!

I just got off the phone with Nanab (Raquel) a few minutes ago and we are arranging to meet as she and Gail will be driving down to my house this Friday morning! Raquel said it's about a 6 hour drive. Sara (sasjourney, who lives about an hour away) will most likely also be joining us at my house. It's so great the way this board can give new friendships and it's even more fun to discover people from the board that live nearby.
Before talking to Raquel today, I had a 40 minute phone conversation with Sonia32 in Manchester, England. Such fun to be able to communicate to someone on another continent like that! These conversations made my morning!

On another note... today is day 4 of the 8 day long detox/cleanse that I am doing.
I actually feel much better than I thought I would. I had a headache the first two days and on the evening of day 2 I broke out in a bright red rash on my chest and itched everywhere for about an hour or two, then it was gone. Yesterday (day 3), I just felt really weak and tired (it didn't help that I was up until 1:45 the night/morning before!)
Today, day 4, I feel pretty good! I've lost 5 pounds, but that may just be water weight. I would like to drop a total of 15-20 lbs, but that will take time, of course. I have resisted those nasty girl scout cookies and all other things that are tempting. It was really hard yesterday when the family drove through KFC after church for lunch and I just drank water and had to smell their food in the car! It was my idea to drive through, so don't think my family's mean :) I got their dinner last night without being tempted to eat it myself. This is so huge for me because my willpower has always been very weak & I usually have given into temptation in the past. So, the fact that I have now gone 4 days without anything sweet whatsoever, no meat at all, and literally no carbs- just my protein shake, supplements, enzymes, and veggies with olive oil. I really think I'm going to come through this with a new craving for vegetables and various ways to prepare them and will be able to stay away from the sweets.
Next week Wednesday (the 16th), I go back to the naturopath dr. for a follow up and also a computer screening that somehow will be able to tell me what all of my allergies and sensitivities are to- including foods, additives, airborne allergens, chemicals, and metals. it should also let me know if I have a sensitivity to gluten. I have suffered from allergies/asthma and irritable bowel/digestive upset- whatever you want to call it most of my life, so I am very excited to have this test done so that I'll know what to avoid and what kinds of supplements I'll need to take.
I'll check in again after I have the test done next week and let you all know what I found out.
Oh- my next PET/CT scan was originally scheduled for Feb. 16, but it has now been postponed until mid April. I'm okay with this because, honestly, whether the scan results are good or bad, there's really not anything different my oncologist could be doing for me at this point anyhow. I've had disease advancement from Folfiri, so I wouldn't go back on that and can't take Erbitux or oxaliplatin anymore either. It would be a clinical trial at that point, which seem to be difficult for me to qualify for, at least that's what it seems like from trying to find them recently.
Starting with my last chemo 2 wks ago, my onc has upped my Gemzar dose (it had been lowered about 4 months ago due to platelets dropping too low) & I've been switched from Xeloda back to the 5FU pump. So with the upped Gemzar dose and some of the natural supplements and this cleanse, I'm thinking that waiting until April to scan will allow a little more time to see if it's all working. It will then have been a little over 5 months since my last scan on Nov 4. I've never gone that long in between scans before, but I think it's fine to wait this time due to the circumstances. I'm also glad to put off my getting more radiation exposure a bit longer too.

Hope you all have a lovely week! I'm so fortunate to be enjoying beautiful sunny skies outside with the temp in the mid 70's. To those of you who live where it's cold and gloomy right now, here's wishing a little sunshine your way (at least in spirit!) Winter doesn't last forever :)

Your email was wonderful! You should be over the hardest of the detox. I have done them many times over the years with my raw diet. The carb/sugar detox is brutal. Visiting new friends. Wow, all sound great!

    Stay in your Energy Zone!
Sounds Great! Hope you get some good recipes...LOL! Lisa I admire you energy. Some people walk around feeling so sorry for themselves, with petty things on their minds. If only they knew how to enjoy life like we do.. Good Luck Lisa. May I ask where are you from that the weather is so beautiful...Blessings from Lourdes

    Lourdes & to others
    Hi Lourdes,

I'm from Fallbrook, CA which is in north San Diego county, California.
Today is a little cooler weather with some clouds, but nothing unbearable- temp in the upper 50's. I was in chemo most of the day today, so I don't know if it got warmer around noonish as it often does, then cools off again.
Had a tougher day today- felt very depressed and on the verge of tears all day. Totally the opposite of yesterday. I actually read on the info about the cleanse that depression and irritability can also be symptoms of toxins being released during the cleanse. Didn't feel irritable, just down, really tired, and was crying most of the morning, so got into chemo late which made for an even longer day.
Hate to think my emotions are that fragile that they can change from day to day. I'm feeling much better now emotionally (it's 5:30 pm as I write), so I know I will be fine. My 15 yr old had a melt down this morning right as it was time to leave for school (and me for chemo), so I ended up finally leaving the house at 10:00 to go to chemo & just left my daughter at home. That stressed me. My female shih tzu is due with puppies any day & I was worried about leaving her today (at least my daughter ended up keeping an eye on her- no puppies yet). So, those events with maybe some emotionalism from toxins being released on this cleanse probably caused my tears this morning.
It was a kind of stress releaser though, & now I'm fine again. (for today anyhow- live one day at a time). But I do still have lots of hope and excitement in what the naturopath has planned for me and for this screening I'll be getting next week Wed. to check all my allergies and sensitivities. If it works it will be very helpful information. I also have the get together at my house this Friday with Raquel, Gail, and Sara. We're also going to conference call Serrana from the board, who also lives fairly close but can't make it Friday, when we're all together. So that will be a lot of fun, I'm sure!
Fortunately, I don't have to stress about getting the house ready too much- I have a cleaning lady who now comes just once every 4 weeks & she came today while I was at chemo- good timing with that! :)

Cheers everyone (as I go off to make my lightly steamed brocolli and quinoa grains with olive oil for dinner- along with the protein powder drink and enzymes.... Mmmmm, good!)

    Ups and Downs
Awwww Lisa... the emotional roller coaster comes with the chemo and constant fight we are on... and then add on top of that a detox, and is it any wonder you are teary and emotional? And just wait to those puppies come... it will be emotions in the other direction! And dealing with a 15 year old female... that is similar to dealing with a 50 year old menopausal woman :D Hormones amuk!!

Good on you to just take it a day at a time.... today's the downside of the roller coaster... wait to the gals get to your house and it will be the upside of the roller coaster :D

Me, I've sort of leveled off and am just holding my breath that this is as bad as it gets for me... which is fighting one day of the queasies and 2 days so far of the headache. Of course, then I go through the ups and downs too... gee, if this is the worst (which is very mild) does that mean the chemo is not working?? If I were to get deathly ill with no quality of life while on the chemo does that mean that's just the price one pays to have the chemo work? So no matter what we are going through, the good and the bad, we are always going to question it and then we are going to think the worst and the best :)

Your detox sound fascinating and is very, very similar to the Atkins diet (low carb high protein) for the first Induction weeks. The whole concept of Induction is for detox, to get rid of the sugars, white carbs, etc. This period can be frought with headaches, and the weepies... but then after a couple of days on it... up to a week, you all of a sudden start feeling better with lots more energy.

I realize your detox is not the same, but it sounds like the same concepts... so I wish you luck! Just keep with it... once you find something that works for you and you are happy with it, ignore the naysayers... and just go with your heart and what feel good to you, and better yet, what works best for you!!
