    Nurse Practioners
    Cheryl,

I know on one thread you mentioned you were not familiar with the role nurse practitioners play (I am not really either). The March issue of Canadian Living magazine has an article, "Nurse Practitioners: Changing the Face of Canadian Health Care". I haven't read it yet.

I Believe in the Power of You and I!
Hahaha Buzz! You are scaring me... I am imagining me getting all comfy in my chair and hooked up to the IV through my Power Port and settling in for the couple of hours of drips... only to have this screeching/scratching/farting sound coming from the walls!! Everyone will be looking around and asking each other, "Is that the Canadian National Anthem???" And one by one they'll be grabbing their IV poles and walking down the hall, trying to escape. Next thing we know, they'll be having an emergency evacuation of the whole building... and I'll be left to explain, "No, really. It's ok. It's just Buzz and Kerry singing along in support... please, everyone come back!" :)

But if you are going to sing... can I make a request??? Ok, I have to admit I got a lot of strength and feeling when we had the 2010 Winter Olympics here back in February. And I could use some of that strength to keep me going... soooo, do you think the two of you can learn "I Believe" and round up some of the others and sing that in unison?? :D

    I Believe!

Thanks!!! Muchly appreciated... all of you :D

    Huggggggs,

    Cheryl

I think I found the article...
    Hey Anne,

I think I found the article and yes, it is interesting. It appears that we have Nurse Practitioners in Canada but it sounds like they are in the smaller towns and in the Aboriginal communities... as well as the Northern communities that don't have access to doctors or facilities like in the cities. It also sounds like they are going to bring on more and I would think it's just a matter of time before they are also located in the bigger cities... probably working outside of the walk-in clinics and private clinics. Here's the article I found:

    Canadian Nurse Practitioners

I have a family doctor, so I have not actually had to go to any of the walk-in clinics or the group clinics where you may get a different doctor every time you go in (I don't like that concept, even if all the doctors are good... they are reading from a file and don't actually get to know individual patients). I've been going to my GP since I was 21... so he knows everything about me, health-wise and we are more than just patient/doctor because we've known each other for so long.

But, it does sound like there will be more and more of these clinics/Nurse Practitioners cropping up... whether they'll be popular in the cities I guess remains to be seen.
