Free tube food (kinda)

Hey all,

I have 8 unopened cases of Compleat and 1 with just 4 cans missing. Each 8.45 oz. can has 250 calories with 12 grams of protein. Compleat contains chicken,cranberry juice, carrots, tomato's and peas along with a whole lot of corn syrup and maltodextrin and other strange ingredients. It was a compromise with the nutritionist at my docs office after I refused to use any of the other canned stuff. I just couldn't do it though I did try 4 cans. Apparently 9 cases is the minimum order and insurance paid for it. My cat would sure like the space under the sofa back so I would be happy to send it to anyone who can use it. If you are in the SF Bay area I could just drive it over or we could meet somewhere for tea. I must admit I feel a little guilty passing this off as food so don't tell me you're actually putting it down your tube. Maybe just using it to hold up bookshelves or something. Anyway, let me know if you're interested.

    Okay.....Compleat sounds like a weird concoction, lol. If you cannot find a taker you may check with the American Cancer Society. The one office on my hospital took my 9 cases of Nutren and 2 cases of bags for the feeding pump.

    I had 4 cases left over and donated it to the radiation clinic. They were able to pass it along to another.

    I've been making phone calls myself to try to get rid of several cases of 2Cal that were left when my husband passed away a few weeks ago. I tried Hospice and they declined it...some kind of liability issue. for heaven's sake...the cans are intact and shrink-wrapped in a cardboard box. I have been told to ask the local nursing home and have also had the suggestion for radiation clinic. I just can't see throwing this stuff in the trash.

    Doggone it ladies. I thought I had a bunch of takers and you all end up being givers. I'll see if I can find a way for us all to get rid of the unused products.

    If the ACS won't take it you
    If the ACS won't take it you can also try a senior home or senior center. We also have a place that distributes food to the people who need it and cannot afford it and they took my Resource Boost Breeze. Its a Christian organization.

    Hi Bob,
    I am so happy to hear that your doing so much better.
    This has been a tough start to the new year for us. Mom in law passed away on the 9th of Jan. I was in Houston at the time getting ready for my appointment at MD Anderson.
    My thought is this, after my MIL passed away we were left with lots of items, such as Ensure,depends, walker etc. We gave all the items to the assisted living where my mom lives. They were happy to have the items. They have residents in various states of well being and some are very very elderly. They said that they can always use donations.
    It must be so nice to want to find a new home for the 'drinks'.

    Hi Bob!

    I had maybe seven cases of Jevity left over, as well as about four cases of Ensure that I had no interest in drinking. Blech. I took them to our Regional Cancer Center, and they were happy to take them to pass on to patients in need. I also gave my oncology nurse several books that I had read and completely memorized, including Anti-Cancer, as well as two other good books recommended on this site. I also gave her my copy of Lance Armtrong's first book, I forget the title, but it's the one that describes his victory over cancer. I found it very inspiring. I figured that all these books would do more good in circulation than in gathering dust on my shelf.

    Glad to hear things are going well.

    P.S.
    If you need to donate or give away any liquid food, stay aware of the expiration dates on the cans. All my doctors were very emphatic that I not consume anything that had passed it's expiration date.

    The Oley Foundation will take your left over feedings. Just go to their website and they will list your item. If someone contacts you, they will have to pay for shipping to their location.

    Hi Lisha,
    Good to hear from you. I'm sorry to hear about your mother-in-law. It must have been comforting for her to be out here with her family in the end. I really like the idea of giving to an assisted living home and have one right across the street. I will check with them. It is nice to be getting rid of this stuff. I'm really getting excited about eating again. I had such a nice corn soup last night that tasted exactly as it should and found a raw organic vanilla mousse at Whole Foods that really lights me up and at 720 calories packs a nice punch. And how have you been? Enjoying our beautiful winter weather here as the rest of the country shivers? God bless the Bay.

    Good idea. I have a nice little cancer library here that does just sit and get dusty. I think I will pass it on. I was just thinking about the Sierras yesterday and longing for the high country of Yosemite. It won't be long now.

    Hi,

    Like Sweet, I was using the Nutren 1.5 and had several cases left. I went over to the VA Nursing home that is several miles away and asked if they could use the nutrition along with other things I had from my recovery period. They took it all and were very pleased to receive it.

    Just another suggestion to add to the current list : )

    Donated it also
    I had about 15 cases of jevity and some other brand left over when I was done tube feeding, I donated it to the local cancer center. They took all of it and had some low income patients that were really happy to receive it.

    I had cases of TwoCal that no one would take, because it was "prescribed" by Sloan. I tried Cancer Centers, wellness centers, Sloan, food banks, hospice, visiting nurse associations, etc. I had no takers.

    I did find a friend who has a cousin going through cancer treatment that is taking some of them.

    The recommendation for Oley Foundation looks like a good one! I don't mind paying for shipping at all, if I know it can be used. I have a box of the syringes used for the tube too that are unopened that I can donate.
