Spoke with the oncologist. My treatment will now be changed to Taxol/Avastin. Believe it or not this time around I am upset about losing my hair. I go next week for my first Taxol infusion. Since it is almost 2years since I've last had Taxol I am hoping it will work well for me again.

    i wish you the best
with your treatment. I cried when my hair started falling out but quickly made the decision to buzz it off. After that I was okay with it. I don't know how I would react a second time. It is normal to mourn the loss of our hair. What is that saying, "A woman's hair is her crowning glory." You are a beautiful woman and your hair is only a small part of you.

    Me too!
I was a little upset the second time but I realized it was because it was an inconvenience more than anything. Good luck!

    2nd time around
Nancy, I think this might be cocktail for you. Don't even think about the hair. I know that I felt that way too but you are beautiful inside and out. Just get well!

    blood pressure
Joni, I had noticed on a previous comment that you had trouble with your blood pressure on the Avastin. I was wondering how high your blood pressure got if you don't mind me asking. I have been going through the same. I get kind of worried about it. They did start me on b/p meds but it is still high at times.

    Taxol Treatment
Hi Nancy, I can honestly say I would feel the same way. When you were on Taxol the first time did you have any side effects, like neuropathy or anything else. Did it work for you.

I hope all goes well for you next week.

Taxol is the 'good stuff'; highest % of positive results.
I am very vain and I've lost all of my hair now 3 different times to taxol. And yet I would LOVE to be able to take taxol again, as twice taxol was able to get me into remission and NED. Alas, taxol no longer works its magic for me.

But, think of it, Nancy: this is the shot you've been looking for that could get you into a decent remission and give you the chemo break you need so badly. Even I am not so vain that I would not trade my hair for that!! Taxol knocks back cancer for a larger percentage of women than any other chemo. Combine with Avastin and it sure looks like a winner to me!

You are kinda shaking my faith in the chemo protocol I am currently fighting to get next: Avastin/Cytoxin. Didn't work for you? We are both papillary serous, so I think the same things may just work for the 2 of us. (Who knows? It's such a crap shoot!) My oncologist may be thinking Avastin/Gemzar for me next anyway; I'll know more Tuesday when I get the results of today's CT/PET.

Losing all your hair still sucks; I can't argue that one. But treat yourself to a gorgeous NEW wig; and get another one every month you are on taxol, every one different. That's what I did and it made it all so much more bearable to always have a new look. And it's WINTER! Wigs & hats in winter are GREAT! (I was bald in summer once & I promise you WINTER is the time to be bald for the vain!) (((((Nancy))))

I totally get it about the
I totally get it about the hair. When I was told I would lose mine, I hardly even blinked. Now that it has come back (still very, very short,) I'm so happy with it, and especially with having eyelashes again, that I know I would be upset to lose it all over again. Getting my wigs was fun, but wearing a wig all the time is not, especially in warm weather, and hats also get to be a bit much after a while. I hope this is a winning combination for you and you will have your hair back along with your health.

    Thinking of you
    Nancy,

I've been lurking a lot lately but I wanted to let you know that you and your family remain in my prayers. On the plus side, with such a long break between taxol-tinis, it should prove to be very effective! God Bless and keep you!
    Hugs!

    Hi Nancy
Hi Nancy. So glad you have a new plan in place and are going full speed ahead. I am sorry about the hair, can only imagine how disappointing that is. But like other posters have said, taxol may just be the ticket for you and You are beautiful, hair or no hair. Hugs and prayers,

    Taxol is good stuff
If it didn't steal our hair, it would be perfect.

I hope this cocktail is the winning one.

    Taxol
Nancy, I'm sitting here in the chemo room as the taxol drips into my veins. It has always worked for me. Will you get the dense dose?
Loosing your hair is bummer, and having something specific to cry for is sometimes cathartic.

    Linda,
    I was on bp meds

    Linda,
I was on bp meds before the Avastin and I was 120/80 with the meds. However, after the 4th Avastin treatment it was at 150/90 and continued even after they increased my medication. After the 5th treatment, bp did not lower and the protein was elevated in the urine. He stopped the treatment before #6.

This should be a good one
This should be a good one for you Nancy - getting the big guns together! But I hear you about the hair, I took the first go round in stride but a second is tougher -- but the results will make it all worthwhile. I've got you in my thoughts and prayers.
