TSH Blood Tests
Hi Debbie,
One indicator of thyroid problems, is the TSH levels they measure routinely (or mine do). It may or may not be scheduled with a regular CBC you are having performed.
Normal levels range any where from .4- 4.0 or .5 - 5.0, depending on where you look.
Just because you have a higher number doesn't necessarily mean you are at the point of meds such as synthroid, but more than likely on your way.
Mine is around 6.0, but when they tried the minimal dose of synthroid, it messed with my blood pressure and pulse rate, so they took me off for now.
Best,

chills
hi debbie!
I also get the chills all the time. I used to walk around barefoot in shorts and tank tops, even in the winter, when at home, now I wear long sleeve shirts over my tank tops, thick pants, and the thickest socks I can find. I have four blankets on my side of the bed and I am still cold. my thyroid levels are fine...I just lost too much weight too fast. I was told it might level out again in a few months...I hope so. I don't want to be wearing long sleeves and jeans in the summer!0 -

Well, on the positive side (as long as you aren't sick), with the economy the way it is, you can save a few dollars on your AC electric bill...:)

COLD ALL OF THE TIME
I have not had my thiroid checked yet as I am only a little over 90 days post. I did lose 70 lbs and I bet that is what is causing my chills. I have realized this winter that my body just does not work well in the cold weather. It takes me almost an hour to do something in the cold that used to take 10-15 minutes.
I guess the "new normal."

- what John and Ratface advised.
Coldest/nicest summer of my life was 09. Last rad in early-April, and back to work a month later, our factory is major hot and humid, but I'd find myself wearing a windbreaker jacket most of the time. Had the thyroid blood test, and was only told it didn't warrant meds yet. For me, the chills went away after about a year.

I am not sure why but the older I get the colder I get, I sleep with two or three blankets sometimes and all the Wife has on is a sheet, just feels like my body can’t make the heat I need anymore.0
