Sacral Resection Tomorrow
This is a follow-up to the recent post regarding my upcoming "sacral resection". For those who don't know me I was dx stage 4 with liver mets in August 2004. I had all the surgery and chemo needed at the time and further RFA to dispense with a pesky little liver met recurrence. I was all clear for a few years until I suffered a local recurrence in Aug 2009. This time it was in the sacrum and rectum. I had radiation for 3 weeks and then erbitux for 10 months. When it became clear that the erbitux was losing its grip I enquired about a sacral resection.
Colon cancer in the sacrum is pretty rare. Johnsfo and I were the only two here on the board with it. It is very painful, does huge nerve damage, and is usually fatal. The sacral resection is a pretty major surgery but it is being done more frequently for various types of cancer that affect the sacrum. You can read about the details on my BLOG... http://www.rob-pollock.blogspot.com/
If you know of anyone who has had there cc spread to the sacrum have them contact me.
I'll post a report on the surgery when I'm back online. 2-4 weeks or so.
