I would think this particular forum is the space to debate. And if done correctly, people learn new experiences from debate.
Among those that belief, maybe... But, this is not a place to have some one come on and question our belief. This is a cancer board, we need our God and we need to pray for each other and talk about death, and afterlife among ourselves, not debate with someone that has no belief. This is why this board in particular was created.0 -

The name of the site is Cancer Survivor Network the last time I looked and not Debate you belief.
I come here to learn from others and to pray for them who ask of me prayers.
I don’t care about what anyone beliefs are, that is something personal0 -

Everyone can post their beliefs and comment as long as we all agree on what belief we can post about.
No wonder more wars have been fought over who's God is the best God.
We are in here because we have cancer not because we are Christian,Morman,Buddhist,Hindu,Athiest,Agnostic or any other type of thing. With that being said I feel we much all respect each of our views on the subject not attack it if it is not how you believe. If you don't agree with something just skip over that post. If you like what you read and want to support it then by all means add to the post and possibly make it better but NEVER rip on someones values or beliefs.
Blessings to you all,
Patrick0 -
I agree!
Nana,
I agree with you! That was my whole issue with not feeling comfortable on this board when when it was first formed. That there are some individuals who delight in debating religion should not be the ones to form the "feel" of this board. As it relates to CANCER is really what the spirituality focus should be on. I think it is fine that people start threads about various different religious beliefs, but I really don't think it should be a forum for people who do NOT have religious/spiritual beliefs but are just wanting to debate those who DO believe. The name of board isn't spirituality and non-spirituality. I believe the idea of the board is for those who have spiritual beliefs of some kind to support each other through cancer through their similar spiritual beliefs.
Please let it not be a place of hostile debate if people aren't wanting to debate.
I will try this board for a while and see if the "feeling" I get from it has changed from the feeling I got from it a year or so ago.
To others on this board, I am a born again Christian and my faith in the Lord Jesus is everything who I am. That is how I get through dealing with cancer, dealing with problems with family, and with life in general. My faith in Jesus has grown stronger since my cancer diagnosis 3-1/2 years ago. Yes, I would love for everyone who doesn't have this in their life to be able to have this faith and relationship with the Lord. I am not here to debate anyone else into believing the same as I do (that's not how it's done, anyhow- no one can be "beaten" into belief), I am just here to reach out to others who believe the same as I do & I hope that I will be able to do that without having to engage in debate. Sometimes in life I enjoy debate, but right now I am just tired and want peace, rest, and healing (both physical and ongoing spiritual/emotional solace). I will gladly pray for anyone who requests prayer.
In Christ,

I'm not Christian and I don't pray, I can't come to this site? This is a Spirituality, Prayer and Meditation board - for all, right? If I'm Pagan, could I ask for others to invoke the goddess? Would you be cool with that?0 -
My thoughts on this...
I for one am a believer in God, a born again Christian and I was thrilled when this board was open. However, I fear if folks keep arguing over who can come here and what they can say here we may find that "here" will no longer exist.
I do enjoy praying for others who come here asking for prayer, I also enjoy sharing my faith with those who choose to ask questions and seek answers since that is a huge part of my spirituality, the will to share my faith and learn what others have to say. If I do not share my faith with those who are unknowers, non believers and such then what good is my faith, it would lend to me not caring for others. I just felt the need to say that I have grown in faith and strength from the posts that have been placed in this forum and I hope they continue as I believe this forum is a wonderful place for us all to learn and grow from each others comments.
I hope those who post questions or debates however you choose to see it will continue to do so. I find your view enlightening and your thoughts have certainly given me a better understanding of how non believers feel. I am honored as a Christian to attempt to answer any questions you post as that is what my faith say's I should be doing....besides it gives me others to pray for. ;-)

I hope that discussions can go forward without them becoming combative debates. Like you said, "If I do not share my faith with those who are unknowers, non believers and such then what good is my faith, it would lend to me not caring for others. I just felt the need to say that I have grown in faith and strength from the posts that have been placed in this forum and I hope they continue as I believe this forum is a wonderful place for us all to learn and grow from each others comments." I've started to explore my faith more since visiting this board and have opened up to various faiths and what they have to offer. As you well know, there is a big difference between sharing one's faith and trying to convert or preach to people. I think it was Lisa42 who said that you can't beat faith into people. That's very true, having gone through 8 years of Catholic school I know that to be a fact!
;-)
I know I've had my share of being combative, at times I started it other times I took the bait. I've stated numerous times since the beginning of the new year that I do not wish to be combative in this forum. I think most of the Master Baiters are gone (at least for now)

I don't doubt the role of
I don't doubt the role of Allah in my life and my journey through cancer. People can question it and help me open my eyes to what other's believe and their questions always encourage me to reflect deeper on my own beliefs. However the role of Allah in my own personal journey is just that, personal and no-one can invalidate it or take it away from me. I have said this several times on this board - 'There are as many ways to God/Allah/Divine/Universe/Goddess or whatever you would like to call as there are hairs on ones head'.
Nana b - your statement 'Can we have a NOTE on this board that it s not a place for debate about our beliefs!' is more like a demand than a request (which would have ended in a question mark). Some people might find this offensive!
And I might add, that all the times I have been questioned on this board, it has never been done in a demanding, disrespectful or offensive manner. I like the constribution of many members on this board and I also find those who play the role of the 'persecuted Christian' rather tiresome.0 -

As you've seen in other posts of mine, I'm currently listening a lot to theologian Karen Armstrong. In one of her recordings, she says that the three major religions - in no particular order- (Christianity, Judaism, and Islam) have the same God at their center, the God of Abraham. I have not read mountains of books on this but I found the comment to be very interesting since those are the three religions that seem to have had the biggest problems getting along throughout history. Being that you are a Muslim, do you know this to be true?
Just to comment on your observation on treatment on this site, it seems that when one treats others with respect it is usually returned.

Phil, I see it the same way, that is all 3 of those religions have the same 'God' at their center. I feel that Jesus brought compassion and Mohammed (pbuh) brought surrender both crucial to any spiritual path. Asks the Buddhists or any mystic. For me, religion itself is a way of life, it dictates how you should or need to act in this world. However when you let go of this and really surrender to the this present moment (or allow yourself to be in the presence of God/Allah/Divine/Universe etc) you begin to realise that there is no right or wrong way to 'be' in this world.
Why these 3 religions choose to fight amoungst themselves is beyond me. It is a mystery since as you say they all have the same 'God' at their center. Perhaps it is just ego at work.
In my experience I have found that I have so much in common with Buddhists, Christians, Jews, Muslims as well as Mormons and probably more. Underneath it all, there is little if anything to disagree with. I don't really care if Mohammed (pbuh) or Jesus is the last prophet, that is not what is important to me and what is important is the message that they bring and how we internalise it. You don't have to be a Christian, Jew or Muslim to appreciate these messages, just has you don't have to be a Buddhist to learn a great deal from Buddhist philosophy.
Phil, I love your contribution to this board. I like the questions that you ask, the things you point out. Please keep it up!0 -
THANK YOU!!!
Can we just Praise who or what we want to praise without someone else coming in and being offended? Some folks say they have open minds yet retaliate or question others for who or what they want to worship...like they're offended.
I can see posting a true "thought provoking" thread but it's usually not that. It's more like trying to chastise what people believe in.
Just tell your story. What inspires you. What feeds your soul, plain and simple. We shouldn't pay so much attention to what percentage of people are what...big deal? The larger percent isn't "ruling" the board like it's some game. It is what it is. Let's just all share our own individual spirituality and embrace one another.
Love & Peace!!0 -

Thank you for sharing your understanding of "The God" that most people believe in. Here I go back to Karen Armstrong, but she has a new book out that deals with compassion. I have not read it but the interviews I've heard with her talk about one very basic theme and how it is lacking n society. That is what is known as "The Golden Rule". You know, treat others as you wish to be treated. It sounds so simple yet it certainly seems to be something that is lacking in society.
Aside from enjoying Ms Armstrong, I also enjoy Joseph Campbell who did similar studies. He passed away back in the 1980's but he would bring up stories from ancient Greeks or other civilizations and even back then they had stories of virgin births and resurrections from the dead that were part of the mythology (or religion) of peoples who lived a world away. I find the coincidence to be really interesting. I also like to listen to Ms Armstrong talk about how up until fairly recently, words of the main holy books were not taken literally by the people of the time. They were looked at as she believed was intended and that is as morals for people to learn from. I have a link I will send in a PM to you of another interview with her.
Thank you too for the interesting dialog you provide since you are one of the few of a different faith than what is normally represented here.

You nailed it with this one:
"I also find those who play the role of the 'persecuted Christian' rather tiresome."
With a church on every corner, some kind of bumper sticker on every other car, our political leaders kow towing to the mega church preachers, and the relentless efforts to control the public square, crying foul that they cannot enforce the tyranny of the majority in all walks of life. There is no such thing, in this country, as a persecuted Christian.0 -

It gets old. Interesting side observation. While looking at a person's "Likes" on FaceBook the other day, I saw that they belonged to a site affectionately called "*THIS IS AMERICA...I SHOULDNT HAVE TO PRESS 1 FOR ENGLISH*" (Love how "shouldn't" is misspelled) Then looking at what the theme of the site is was disgusting. It's nice to know that racism and ignorance is still alive and well in America. It was also interesting to view members views on faith.
I'll leave it at that.0
