The reason I say this is because, I am doing a little research and re-organizing when I ran across - my bilateral diagnostic mammogram - dated 30 June 2009 .. clincal history .bah bah bah .. procedure bah bah bah... findings: the breast parenchyma is moderately dense and heterogenerous. asymmetric increased ensity generally in the upper outer quadrantof the left breast as compare dtothe other regions. There are numerous clustered pleomorphic microcalcifications in this same area. This is just as deep to the area wher the BB has been place. Here's the good part --- wait for it ..

Findings are considered suspicious ofr malignancy. Biopsy is recommended. The area involved is ill-defined margins and measures approximately 5cm in diameter. Surgical excisional biopsy is recommended. Suspicious abnormality - biopsy should be done, as soon as possible.

Fast forward to 8/10/09

size of lumpectomy specimen: 10.0x7.0x4.0 cm
size of tumor: 3.0x2.4x2.0 cm


primarily in situ, high grade solid and comedo type ---

path report states on 8/10 .. Diagnosis: Left breast lumpectomy specimen with Extensive Hight Grade Intraductal Carcinoma In Situ Solid Tumor and Comedo Type



--- so I guess what I am stating is that the analysis of my mammo 'WAS' or IS pretty spot on to what the pathologist - Dr. Calvin Marantz found in my block

I notice a lot of postings here have #s like yours.....size etc etc...

I had lumpectomy 3 yrs ago...(almost) and have no clue of any of my #s...nor remember ever hearing them! IS it common doctors tell you exactly?

if not, please try and get it from your oncologist office, or general surgeon. My general surgeon explained in simple terms ..

Size of my cancerous tumor .. the size of a golf ball
Size taken from the upper portion of left breast .. the size of an orange, in order
to gather clear margins.

Again .. I somewhat forgot some of the actual factual information, until I found it again yesterday .. which after reading and digesting the paperwork, freaked me out, all over again.

I dont' think I have ever seen or heard any #s at all...I am very organized and keep everything in files..but do not rememeber...I am sure IF I WAS told the # with so much info being thrown at me...I AM sure it was a blurr...

IS there any reason to really know or have?

My surgeon left-he did my surgery-I went back for follow up shortly after and said leaving practice. I saw someone he referred once and never since..(almost 3 yrs)

why does everyone keep in touch with the surgeon-I HOPE these questions don't sound dumb!

You do need to get a copy of your pathology report Denise. It is important for you to know and to keep for your records.
