Checking In
Basketcase checking in here! Hope all is well. My best friend in coming down tomorrow morning and we're going to NC for a few days. Today is 5 months since Charlie passed away. As I said earlier, I've been more emotional since Christmas but I feel that is to be expected. And also, I told y'all about the life ins. awhile back. On Dec. 2 I got a call telling me the amount had been corrected and it was almost 3 times the original amount. On Dec. 21 when I hadn't heard anything from the ins. co. I called back they didn't know anything about it; so I got on the phone with KMart corporate people and they show this issue as being resolved so they made a conference call to the ins. co. and this time the rep told us yes, that claim had been approved and should be going out in the next few days. I waited until yesterday since I had not heard anything more from them and called back and it's the same old story they haven't gotten anything officially telling them to make the adjustment! So I got back with the Kmart people and she made a conference call to the HR dept. which is overseas and the lady kept saying the amount was only for about twice the original which is what Charlie thought it should be originally. However, the kmart person told the hr person overseas that the case and research was done on Kmart's end in conjunction with HR overseas dept and she had an e-mail id stating the amount was to be corrected to almost three times what it was originally. So now she is doing some further investigation and is supposed to get back with me by 3:00 Monday. She wants to know why they were told the 3 times original amount and at one point the goombah overseas said she would have to speak with the associate to discuss that with him! I thought great I'd like to talk him too, let me know if you get through! However the Kmart person reminded her that the associate had passed away! What a zoo! Anyway to say the least I'm really bummed out about this and now playing the waiting game. On the upside, my unemployment was renewed since I'd exhausted the first bit. So that's good. And I had the nicest surprise on Tues. afternoon. My cousin Russ, from KY (the one who lost his wife almost three years ago to cancer) that I'm so close with him and his brother was in town on business and asked me to come meet him for dinner. It was a great surprise and we got to catch up. He wasn't able to come for Charlie's funeral and felt so bad about it. He became a grandfather in Oct. and of course had beaucoup pictures. It was a needed outing to say the least. I will probably go up to Ky sometime in March and visit them. Anyway gotta run and get ready to leave in the morning. Love y'all and God Bless!

Bitter Sweet
Hi Jan,
Well it looks like your getting the typical bureacratic run around....make sure when they talk to Charlie, he gives them the what for....
Glad you got to visit and catch up with your relatives...
Hoping for some positive news in the triple amount numbers for you soon....
Best,
John0 -
Hi Jan
Sorry to hear you are still having to put up with this from the ins co, I know the feeling, my brother was killed 2 years ago and the ins co has stilled not paid. To make things worse his wife died last year and his 3 children have no support except for my sister who is trying to rise them with her children.0 -

and Jan, Please don't post anything too revealing about the situation. Your better off leaving out names of everything. Good luck resolving the issue.0 -

Respectfully, I believe you might want to rethink referring to yourself as "Basketcase". I find you to be far from it. You supported Charlie through a dreadful illness and loved him through to the next world, you have allowed yourself your grief while letting those around you comfort you, you have shown such commitment to all of us here on these boards, and now you are fighting the insurance company. I am sure the list could go on...but what is most important is how YOU are going on...moving forward...and sharing it with all of us. You just don't seem like a basketcase to me.

Pumakitty:
Thanks for the kind words, but I really kinda of cherish the nickname as Charlie would often tell me, "Now don't be a basketcase over this or I didn't let you know how concerned I was about something or other because you were such a basketcase anyway." So as quirky as it may sound I kinda have gotten attached to it! So don't think that I dislike it! I consider it sort of a term of endearment as Charlie would say, "That's okay, you're the best basketcase I know!" Thanks.

You know it always bugged me that you called yourself a basketcase because I think you have been so strong and so amazing. Now that I know the story behind it, I find it endearing and I am so glad that you shared that with us. Thanks for checking in.0
