hi,
8 weeks after - surgery - i have pain in my right side of abdomen
saw my onco for pre-chemo appointment, she thought it could be my ip port as she feels it is too high, right under my rib cage,
had my CT - it actually looked good - no new spots after surgery, just few that we knew about and hopefully chemo will kill them.
but my pain still there, it is not sharp pain - but i constantly feel it.
especially when i cough or sneeze... i even need to hold with my hand to make it easier.

i am seeing my doctor day after tomorrow and will ask again

but can it be hernia after hysterectomy?

thanks in advance for your feedback

hugs
Vitoria

    Could Be
Victoria, If you have had an incision it can be an incisional hernia. I have one that has become 2. I will be getting mine repaired sometime this year. Hugs, Cindy

    Same Pain Same Symptoms !!!
    Hi My Friends,

I have been off the boards for about 6 weeks. By chance stopped by this AM to say "HI" and to check out " pain in right side". I have an appointment with the doc and thought I would get info from my Warriors.

I wasn't thinking hernia. I was think gas that is stuck in a pocket. ????

I will definitely let you know what the MD thinks.

    Best regards,

    Connie

    I have an incisional hernia
I have an incisional hernia - a result of my "big belly surgery" back in Sept 09. I had a hysterectomy, de-bulking, omentum removed, and bowel resection. These are common after really big abdominal surgeries.

The repair is a simple day surgery. I am going to have mine fixed in Feb. In the interim, I am not supposed to lift over 5 pounds. The only real danger is that they can strangulate and case a bowel obstruction. My doctor said mine probably would not strangulate because it's "too big."

Boring, old Gas - nothing more
    Victoria,

The MD thinks the pain is nothing serious. He recommends a low fiber diet. $400.00 please.

    Lots of love and luck,

    Could also be adhesions
Glad you don't have a hernia! I also had pain post surgery that had me pressing my belly when laughing, sneezing, or coughing. My gyn/onc's nurse-practioner thought it was most likely adhesions. It went away gradually over a period of months.

I am going to have my appointment tomorrow at 9am,
hopefully it will give me some clearity on when i will start chemo and on pain.

Carlene - i also had "big belly surgery" . I had a hysterectomy, de-bulking, omentum removed, tubes removed, apendix removed... so very possible that i have hernia.
i have a dog - she is little - 10lbs, but i should not be lifting more than 5.
but she is always with me and on me.

    Hernia?
I also had the extensive hystorectomy and now have a large bulge on the left side of my stomach. Doctor thinks it is probably a hernia , but says they won't take care of it until 6 weeks after chemo is done. He said put a belly band on it and basically deal with it. It is very frustrating to deal with the unknown. If they could tell me it is a hernia I can deal.

    Pain Meds?
    Victoria,
Are you on pain medicine? I was on heavy duty pain management for the 9 months following my surgery, fentanyl patch and oxicodone, plus ibuprofen sometimes. I am not a wimp, but couldn't stand not having the meds. Eventually, all the pain went away. I guess I just healed slowly.

    Should you be taking Ibuprofen?
I am wondering if you should be taking that? I remember reading that this can effect blood platelets. My doctor told me to stop taking Ibuprofen before I began chemo. Also, my son has a syndrome that involves low blood platelets and cannot take it.
I'm not a doctor, so might be wrong, just wondering.

    Hernia after surgery
Hi, I had my surgery in 11/06 and had a hysterectomy. A few months later I noticed this lump near my naval and asked the oncologist about it. He said I had an incisional hernia. Got it I guess from my surgery. Did nothing about it but when my cancer came back in 2008, the surgeon said while we have you open, we're going to get your hernia fixed, so that's what they did.
