A vomitting question........
1. I am on my second line chemo (same one as before) Carbo/taxol.
2. I had my second infusion on the Thursday before New Year.
3. On New Years eve around 3pm I began with violent stomach pains and vomitting.
4. I promptly took some anti-sick meds
5. Vomitting continued on and off until 9pm where I couldn't stand it any longer. (Anti-sick meds not working)I was unable to keep water down. Violence of stomach pains increasing.
6. I called the ambulance and I was started to feel out of it. They came within minutes. They decided to take me in to get checked out and re-hydrate me.
7. Once in A & E I was retching but nothing was left in my stomach to come out.
8. I was given IV saline and anti-sick meds.
I SPENT NEW YEARS EVE IN A & E and what an experience.
I was sent up to the ward eventually and was kept awake from 2.00am - 5.00am but nurses and doctors asking about my chemo and cancer etc. At some point I happened to mentio I had eaten a ham sandwhich where the ham was a weekmout of date!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After blood tests and my history and my obs the doctors decided my sickness was due to a reaction to my chemo. Now bear in mind I have never been sick after chemoe before.
So my question to you is this:
1. Are you ever sick, as in vomitting 8 times after your chemo(carboplatin/taxol)
2. OR could my vomitting be a result of food poisioning?
I hope your answers are all 2. because I don't think I could do that amount and volumn of vomitting again ..........ever again.
Thanks Tina xxxx

Hi Tina
Oh, you poor thing! I've never vomit after any chemo/ I feel yucky and have a terrible taste in my mouth for days after being infused with carbo. I get stomach pains, body aches,
numbness in my toes, etc.............. BUT this sounds like #2 (our friend food poisioning), to me! I hope you never have to go through that again.

Those are the same symptoms I get from chemo - feeling slightly yukky, shooting pains in my body and a terrible taste in my mouth. I am convinced it was food poisioning.

Vomitting
My Mom has never been sick like that from chemo either but my brother in law was once when they gave him too much.
If I had to venture a guess I would say you had food poisioning. Food borne illness take 12-48 hours to hit your system and when it hits it is violent.
My husband had an FBI about 15 years ago, he lost 9 lbs in three days and was forced to take 5 weeks off of work because he works in the food industry.
I hope today finds you feeling better.
