I could really use some help, could this be ovarian cancer?
My name is Carol, I'm 27 years old with two beautiful kids and a wonderful husband. I'm new here and I've been experincing some pains that worry me. I'm hoping that maybe someone could shed some light as to what may be happening to me. My mother is a Breast Cancer survivor and just two years ago I lost my 16yr old sister to Osteosarcoma bone cancer and I have an aunt who died of ovarian cancer. On December 22nd, I woke up not feeling right but I dismissed it as maybe not sleep well. I went on with my day and I picked up my mom to take her to the hospital for a knee x-ray and all the while I couldn't shake this intense headache and lower back pain. My mom noticed I wasn't well and after taking her to the hospital I decided to go home just lay down and rest because I felt so tired. My husband called and told me that he was picking up the kids from school and would be home shortly. When I got up I had intense lower back pain and pelvic pain and I started to feel feverish, I thought oh no i'm getting the flu. When my husband got home I told him I wasn't feeling well and took a shower hoping it would relax me.When I got out I was shaking so bad and the pain was increasing I lied down and my husband brought me some flu meds because I had developed a fever. The meds didn't work and pelvic pain was worse than ever. My husband then rushed me to the emergency where they gave me severval different pain meds to help me. They did a CT scan and revealed a 3cm ovarian cyst on my right ovary and they put me on antibiotics because I had high white blood cell count with they said was caused by infection. I was sent home with pain meds and a prescription for levaquin was and told to follow up with my obgyn. I made an appointment and saw my doctors nurse she examined me and found nothing abnormal except for the pain I still had on my right side and blood in my urine. She told me she really needed me to my doctor to discuss surgery to remove the cyst. A few days later I return and see my doctor and she checks me and feels on my right still painful but now my left side is painful too. She orders a transvaginal ultasound and finds that my cyst on my right grew and is leaking fluid and that I also now have a 2cm cyst on my left ovary because of my cancer history. I am suppose to have surgery on 1-11-11 and my doctor is going to remove my cyst and ovary.Since my visit with my doctor I have been feeling really tired and bloated and I still have trobbing pains on both sides and my lower back down to my butt hurts. I noticed I get full pretty quick and then after I feel extremely stuffed. My husband say my stomach looks popped out like i'm pregnant. I pee more often than usual. My doctor says my cyst is fluid filled like a water balloon so there's no possiblity this could turn out to be ovarian cancer...right? Please if anyone could help me with some information it would be much appreciated. Thank You.

I know that you have
I know that you have probably Googled ovarian cancer and are now familiar with the symptoms, some of which you seem to have. But if your doctor is correct about the cyst, then chances are you do not have OC. A tumor is solid, not filled with fluid.
Did they by chance do a CA125 test on you? It is a blood test that measures tumor markers and if elevated can be an indication of ovarian cancer. If you are really concerned, ask your doctor to run one.
Your cyst and ovary will be sent to a pathologist for examination and you will then know for sure if it was malignant or not. In the meantime, try not to panic.

Hi, I'm sorry you're not feeling well. I can't give you professional advice but can tell you what I'd do if it were me. My sister-in-law just had a hystorecgtomey for what we thought was utrian cancer with a cyst on the overy. Well, come to find out it was a lot of cancer on the overy and a nodule on the other. It is stage 3 and she will be starting chemo as soon as her body recovers from her surgery. So, if I were in your shoes I would have my doctor do the complete, i mean complete, hystorectory. I just would not want to worry about the cancer coming back in the one they left. I know this is harsh and I am sorry to be so straight but cancer is ever so present in our lives today that I just can't see leaving it someplace to grow if we don't need to.
I will put you in my prayers and I hope you don't have cancer at all. I wish you the best. Please let us know how you do.
God bless you,

ovarian cysts are not cancer
Relax, Carol, ovarian cysts are not cancer. My daughter get them, and they hurt like hell, like a long, long period gone bad. They do resolve, though, but meanwhile the fallopian tubes are not happy. Hope it all gets fixed tomorrow. It's a laparscopic surgery, right? They will blow up your belly with air, and you'll really really feel pregnant for a day or two after that. Hang in there, honey.0 -
WELCOME, CAROL
First, so sorry to hear you have had to endure so much. Condolences for the loss of your sister and aunt. But, I agree with the other ladies - cysts can cause some nasty symptoms, not all of which is related to cancer. I'm sure they will biopsy everything and have a good look around. It would have been beneficial to see a gynecologic/oncologist given your history, but hopefully they will advise if they have any doubts.
Requesting a CA125 is a good thing to do, also because of the family history and your current medical situation. It may be a little elevated, even due to the cyst, but it will give you a baseline to work with. I'd also like to mention that endometriosis can cause horrible pain as well. So again, there are lots of possibilities here.
Please let us know how you are doing once you feel up to it. Sending lots of prayers and hugs, Carol.

I had the same symptoms but that does not mean it is the worst for you. However, please ask for the CA125. Your having your surgery tomorrow and if it is in fact ovca, please consult a gynecological/oncologist (gyn/onc). Try to send a post as soon as you are able to let us know what the results were and the best of luck to you. You're in the prayers.
