Just came from the pain management specialist. Jim's pain has been uncontrolled using duragesic patches, hydrocodone and, recently, neurontin. The doctor wants to perform a superficial plexus nerve block.

This follows his treatment for a hypopharyngeal tumor.

Anyone have any experience with this?

    Hi Mom
Can’t say I know much about this procedure other then what I read on the internet. If he has been through all the other stuff and not getting any relief then why not give it a try. I been in pain for the last 6 or 7 months and I am just now getting relief because the swelling is going down, when I was hurting and in pain I would have tried anything to get out of it.

All the best to you and Jim and hope it works

Not with C, HOWEVER, yes: my Mom has MS. Couple years ago she was experiencing horrendous pain on the right side of her head. Dr. in Peoria, who she was referred to by Mayo's, said it was the cranial nerve, and when that's a problem- bout as bad as it gets. So, he did a blocking/severing with a laser. We were worried about loss of function on that side of her head, but the laser accuracy kept that from being an issue. Worked bigtime for my Mom. FYI.
