As I sit here today on Christmas Eve I can't help to get excited about the birth of my lord and savior Jesus Christ. For it is this great day that allows me to walk this Earth. 2010 has been filled with many up's and down's but I am grateful for the chance to spend Christmas with my family. I pray that each and everyone of us has a wonderful and blessed Christmas. A buddy of mine asked me why people who don't believe in Christmas celebrate the holiday in the first place. I could not really give him an answer but I know that Christmas was once about love and family and not spending all the money we can just to please our kids and family members. Let us take a moment of the day tomorrow to reflect on the the TRUE meaning of Christmas and say Happy Birthday to Jesus.

    Happy birthday, Jesus!
Thanks for voicing the sentiment, Bobby- Merry Christmas to you, too! I know so many people celebrate Christmas and the whole season as a time of joy, family, and giving. These are wonderful things to celebrate- most definitely! But, I will never put that over the true and original meaning of Christmas and why Christmas is even called Christmas- because of Christ!! The meaning may have changed for some over the years, but I don't think anyone could ever deny that the whole "holiday season" came about because of the celebration of God sending his son in the form of a baby to earth and people are celebrating that!
The whole Santa thing took over- the original "Santa" (which means "saint" in Latin/Spanish/Italian) was a man named Nicholas who did much good and gave gifts to others- don't know how it morphed into living at the north pole, flying reindeer, etc. The whole "he knows when you've been bad or good" and the "believe" themes with Santa really, in my opinion, are replacing Christ's virtues into Santa. Hmmm...
Anyhow, I've gone off on a tangent, but wishing you a Merry Christmas!!!

    Birthday
Yes that is the most important part of all for He is the Reason for the Season. During my prayers before our meal tonight that is the point that is stressed to my grandchildren about Christmas - the Birthday. Hope you have a wonderful and Blessed day.

    Blessings to you
This year has been a very difficult year for me as well and I, too, wish that more emphasis was placed on the birth of our Savior. I enjoy Santa and all the fun Christmas themes for my children's sake, but I try not to get caught up in it all and I hope that they really understand what Christmas truly is all about. I will pray for all of us at Mass today as we celebrate the birth of a baby that changed the world and is our Lord and Savior.

Wishing you much love and peace,

    Sara
