Oncologist hospital visit

My oncologist came by the hospital this morning (his day off) to see me and one other patient. He brought no news, but spent almost two hours just talking with me.
One of the things we discussed was long term survival. He thinks that great strides have been made in the last 10 yeasts or so, and that the rate of long term survival has increased from 10% to a possible 25% long term rate.
We also discussed the Avastin issue (no danger of it being pulled for use in colorectal cancer), why pancreatic cancer has no place on this board (not an opinion, it is not here), my mothers cancer and treatment (pancreatic, died in 2004) and whether or not she should have been in treatment (she was, and at best it should have been delayed)
It was a wonderful experience, more like a visit from a friend than from a doctor.
(retitled to better express what I was trying to say)

My oncologist said the same thing to me 50% at least due to the fact that my tumors where all operable. Also the fact that my tumors are receptacle to certain medications while some tumors are not. So let's celebrate having better stats for stage 4 as we can all beat this with great attitude and some kind of faith even if you don't believe in God have faith in yourself in beating cancer.0 -

Note though that this survival rate is limited to a subset of CR patient, namely those who metastasize solely to the liver (according to the study, this is about 30% of all CR patients). And it is a case for more aggressive liver resection where appropriate. Does not apply to those with other organ or bone metastasis.
Regretably, this stat does not apply to me, as I have no metastasis to the liver, so I may fall into the remaining 70%, where the numbers are a little more murky.0 -
Survival rates
The survival rates are different for everyone,so the numbers really don't mean much. There are a lot of stage 4 survivers here.I'm sure some will let you know how long they have been around, and some are even NED.My doctors wouldn't give me any time frame, they just said I would just have to wait, and see, that everyone is different. And everyone is different.0
