Zometa and Boniva and dental work
Could you please explain what kind of dental work needs to be done before starting Zometa or Boniva.
Thanks

No dental work needs to be
No dental work needs to be done if you don't need it. The important thing is to avoid major procedures (such as dental implants) while you are on a bisphosphonate (zometa, boniva, actonel fosamax, etc). Also, you should maintain excellent dental hygiene while on the drug and see the dental hygienist every 6 months without fail.0 -

I have TMJ and they are concerned on starting me on these drugs due to the complication of nucrosis of the jaw. Nothing I can do but take calcium. That may be what they are concerned about.

New flower here a couple
New flower here a couple months back i was suppose to start Boniva but i was having 3 wisdom teeth pulled so they told me i wouldnt be able to start it for at least 6 months after they pulled my teeth...something about it wont heal and it may rot away my jaw bone while on Boniva? But i can have cleanings and check ups while on Boniva. I still havent started it cuz my 6 months isnt up yet.0 -

they wanted me to see my dentist prior to starting this as one should avoid dental work as much as possible. My dentist told me to avoid eating things that could crack my teeth, hard candy etc... to call her immediatly if I have tooth pain. She said extractions were especially risky. Also to have meticulous dental hygeine.(as stated above) this is to help with the possible side effect of necrosis of the jaw.0 -

Thank you my dear sisters for your responses. I hope others will find this information helpful.Good point to protect your teeth by avoiding hard foods. One more thing to remember.
Wishing everyone a good weekend,
