Just been diagnosed with stage v lung cancer

diagnosed stage v lung cancer which has spread to liver. Start chemo monday. Can anyone tell me there experienace with this type of cancer.No one can tell me the out come but if you have a good out come story to tell me it would be nice to hear alittle hope.

    Hello mkstdhm,

    Just want to wish you luck with your chemo on Monday. The typical side effects after chemo are nauseous, fatigue, appetite loss, but it varies from person to person. There are many postings on lung cancer with mets on the site. Stay positive. You will win this battle.

    I just want to wish you the very best. There are inspirational people in this discussion group, some who have survived lung cancer for quite some time. I hope to start treatment soon and perhaps we can compare oncology notes as we fight this disease! I wish you the best always and look forward to your sharing of experiences with us as you move foreward.

    He's as fit as a flea???
    A flea might live a year and a half under ideal conditions. These include the right temperature, food supply, and humidity. Generally speaking, though, an adult flea only lives for 2 or 3 months.

    Okay, now we can all laugh :)

    I waited till after my 6 month dx to yell victory. I didnt worry about my ph and 2 of my brain tumors are gone and the other is 1/3 the size it started and I feel great lungs are good abdomen and pelvic show nothing. I am just saying.

    My husband got diagnosed 4 months ago today. Adenocarcenoma, right lung, middle lobe. About the size of a golf ball. Had a PET scan that showed it was already in the lymph nodes. Making it Stage 4. He has had Chemo every 3 weeks since August. 3 different types of Chemo. It has been good to him. Only a few days of fatigue and headache ( nothing Motrin won't help) After 3 doses he had a CT scan that showed all was stable. No change and nothing new. Doc was pleased and continued treatment.
    After 3 more doses he just had a PET scan and on the 22nd we were told that the primary tumor is shrinking. Great christmas present. He has chemo tomorrow....
    BUT besides the medical treatment I am also giving him foods high in antioxidants. And (don't laugh) but google Asperagus therapy. Pureed 4 tablespoons in morn and 4 in eve. Everyday since Aug. It is being studied. It has histones that slow cell growth. The case studies in the article are all positive....stage 4 lung cancer, Hodgkins lymphoma, ovarian Ca....all gone after 6 monthe to a year of Asperagus. Doesn't hurt, can't hurt.
    So stay positive, don't give in to it,stay happy and stress free. Be surrounded by love!!!

    From what I read
    asparagus therapy is one of those e-mail flyer hoaxes, sorry =) And don't you think his chemo had a great deal to do with the shrinking of the tumor? After all, that was the reason for his chemo in the first place, right? Likely you could have skipped the green stuff and gone straight to the shrink part =)

    I hate to repeat it again, but a lot of oncologists prefer that their patients NOT load up on antioxidants during chemo - if the idea is to protect the immune system, then you are also protecting the cells that you do want to kill - the cancer cells. My doc says fine, before & after, just not during. Maybe your husbands doc says something different.

    In any case, it's great that the tumor is shrinking, may it keep shrinking until it's gone!

    yes, I believe the chemo has a huge part of the shrinkage of the tumor. Never said I didn't. Sorry if you mistook what I was saying.

    Also found out the lymphnodes are also shrinking. And was able to stop one of the chemo drugs ( the one that is most harsh to the body).

    He feels good...so I will cont. to do the extra also. Like I said it can't hurt.

    i was daignpsed with lung
    i was daignpsed with lung cancer stage 3 may 2005 agreesive chemo. after chemo and radiation had my right upper lobe remove. then back on chemo. i was on remisiion 2007 and went back to work. Feb 2010 was daignosed with stage 4 cancer. went on chemo again and radiation. stop my chemo on august. I am off chemo for now till my next cat scan in feb 25. all i can say is keep praying and do not pity yourself. Pray alot and believe. eat right and follow what your oncolgy and lung specialist say
