CT liver biopsy

My oncologists can't come to a conclusion about the nodes that show on my regular CT scans of my liver. This has been going on since Jan. I had a regular biopsy & ultrasound through my throat which didn't show cancer metatisis,but there have been more things showing on CT scans since then. To be sure of what they are they want me to have a CT biopsy through the stomach,BUT they tell me it is risky & they don't like to do it. Has anyone here had it done or know anything about it? Thank you for your input. I am nervous about saying yes to the procedure.

    Are you talking about a CT guided needle biopsy of the liver? If so, my hubby had this procedure twice in the last couple of weeks. We were never advised it was a risky procedure but then any procedure is. We checked into hospital, George put a gown on but was able to keep bottoms and socks on. They start an IV then take you to the CT room. George got some type of medication but was awake through the procedure, they then get the CT going so they can get the needle in the exact place the onc wants. They take several samples, remove needle and put a band aid on it, no stiches or anything, and he was awake for the procedure. George said the procedure itself only took a few minutes. Then back to a recovery area where you have to rest for 1 to 2 hours with a monitor going. The reason you have to rest is the liver is very vascular and they need to insure there is no bleeding, swelling, etc. going on. We came home, George took a nice nap from sleepy drug, woke up and was fine, eating, etc. From the time we walked in the door until we left was about 3 to 4 hours.     I also had liver biopsy. I was already in hospital, no one indicated it was risky, and I had no problems. They had to insert needle about 12 times or so, I did not find it very pleasant, would request some type of good stuff to relax me next time.. I remember telling the surgeon my left arm was free and I could easily slap him. But I would definitely use the procedure again if need be. May the results be good for you also. Pat

    I had mine done while I was in hospital for a few days after diagnosis. It was done while I was awake, well, while I was supposed to be awake, I'm notorious for taking naps in the CT Scan machine and other procedures, and I do believe I got a nice short nap in that time too. Felt pressure but that was about it. Got a bandaid. Easy Peasy.

    I haven't had the procedure, but if I were you, I think I'd do it, just to be sure.
