I had the same thing all the time while on chemo. My eyes finally stopped watering 1-2 weeks post chemo.
It was fall when I had chemo, the peak of my allergy season. I didn't know if it was the chemo itself making my eyes water, or the fact that it was allergy season & i had barely any eye lashes & it was allergens getting in my eyes, but I found over the counter allergy eye drops (walmart brand, and simply called "Allergy Eye Drops") worked very well at somewhat controlling the watering. I put a few drops in each morning & that really helped.
Congrats at being at the end of the chemo tunnel! I bet you're SUPER excited about getting that last one done! I'm happy for you!!!

I had the same thing too. It was like I was crying but at the same time my eyes were dry. Mine also went away a couple of weeks after last tx. I used eye drops that were natural tears. This is just another of the many things chemo does I guess. God Bless

Been about a year now and one eye surgery to put a drain tube in. I still have eyes watering, can't wear make up it wipes away, my eye lashes are just barely coming in. I had tatoos on both by eyebrows and eye liner to make me feel more normal. What were you on, it was the Taxotere that got me the worst.

Yes Jean, that's the side effect.
It was so embarrasing at work because I would have to tell people that what they were telling me wasn't moving me to tears but that it was the medication I was on.

Tears would just start streaming!

It will pass once you're finished.

Hi Jean, I had the same problem during chemo. I seem to remember though someone on here mentioning it was because we were dehydrated...I don't know how true it is but something to think about.

I remember
Oh yes ... I remember the teary eyes ... and runny nose. It finally dawned on me that it was because my eyelashes were coming out ... and I guess the little hairs in my nose too. The itchy eyes really drove me nuts ... but I just "toughed-it" out ... and it finally stopped. The nose thing was something else! Every morning when I'd get up ... and blow my nose there would be globs of blood (sorry for being so graphic!) ... but I never got a real "bloody nose." I've read on this board that many people do ... so I guess that's "normal" too. It's really surprising how many "little" side effects we never think about ... the eyes, nose ... and oh ... have you gotten the "nail thing"? Many people lose nails or have them get very discolored. We always think of the main side effects as losing our hair and maybe nausea from chemo ... but there are many other things that go on with our body ... that are also "normal" for what we are going through. It's just one big adventure after another.

Going for a manicure to get them all one low length and put on "hard as nails", two coats so they don't break. Dry, cracking skin on hands; using vasaline or Aquaphor on that. What kind of moisturizer should I use for the "bags" that are dveloping from the whiping of the watery eyes?

Jean, I know that sounds wierd, but thats and old beauty tip, to take the inflamation down around your eyes and I'm sure it will moisturize also?

My left eye drips and my right eye twitches and they're both dry. I use Visine Tears occasionally. My nails have white ridges and are brittle but very little discoloration. They actually grow quite fast and I have to trim them every 2 weeks. I finished chemo last week and am hoping the nails get stronger. My hands and feet have started to crack even though I always use cream. So today I slathered my heels with Aquaphor and put socks on. Will redo tonight and sleep with socks. I also have cotton gloves to wear at night so I can lather my hands with the Aquaphor. My lips have been very dry so continue to put moisturers on and try not to lick my lips. This too shall pass as we get further from chemo - I pray!

the eyedrops I liked were
the eyedrops I liked were refresh. and I used them routinely and it really helped. prior to using them my eyesight was altered. now I dont need them at all.

Watery Eyes...
I am having this problem and just Googled it which brought me right to this message board. I am so reassured to read that others have this problem (after second chemo treatment) and I thank everyone for sharing their experiences and suggested remedies. I thought I was having an allergic reaction to the cosmetics and creams from the "Look Good Feel Better" session I attended early last week. But after several days of going without and cleansing, it is still an issue. I hadn't thought it might be due to dry eyes so I will continue to use the "GenTeal" drops I have on hand.

Good luck to everyone during treatment! I will be half way through after my third treatment next week - woo hoo! Can't wait to finish this and radiation and go back to work! Terry B.
