SPOT ON LUNG
My ENT said the spot did not look cancerous. He thinks Scar Tissue from the Radiation.
Has anyone experienced this?
I have to go for a complete Chest CT this afternoon.

I've got four of them
Most people do. They are caused from anything to bird droppings, infection, or water contamination. They are more common in the Mid-west. They are also caused by cancer. You will go crazy obessing about it as you are in for a long road of comparing CT scans for a couple of years. Each one gets a little easier. On on my fourth scan in January and so far so good. What you want is no change from scan to scan. NED is just a little farther away for us. I'm running next to you on this one. I hung on to the anti- anxiety meds at this point. Watch the mental health side of things and you only have to get to your next scan after this one.0 -

I am worried the scan I do today of the entire chest will reveal something bad. I will just cross that bridge when I get to it.

I've got one as well.
It's sitting right in the middle of my left lung. However after 4 CT scans and 1 PET scan, it didn't light up and hasn't changed size, so the docs aren't concerned but will be keeping an eye on it as time goes on. They weren't able to provide a reason for it either.0 -

I hope they just keep an eye on it also and monitor for any change. I hope to have the results of todays CT late this afternoon and I am also scheduled to see a Thoracic Surgeon on Monday.

My Mom has had several spots that they have been watching for two years now. They haven't grown or changed. Don't panic. Just hope you get the results today so you don't have to sweat it out any more than necessary.

spots/scar tissue
I go through this when I have to have a chest x-ray - because I have active asthma and have had several bouts of serious pneumonia, spots show up when we are looking for another round of pneumonia.
My family doctor recognizes them for what they are since he's now seen them several times with no change: if I end up with a specialist, it causes a few moments of consternation on their part.
Praying this is nothing more serious than that.

Sometimes it just seems like we can’t beat this crap, before you can get one thing out of the way here comes another. I am just getting over this pain & infection in my head and now I am having problems with my eyes going dark. I can’t wait till I get to heaven and get my new body, all I know to do sometimes is to pray and believe me my brother I will be praying for you that all it is, is just a spot.

I am so sorry to hear that there was a spot on your lung - mostly because I know the anxiety something like that would cause me. As you can see, many people have them and they are nothing. I am hoping and praying that yours is nothing also, and I am praying that you hear good results soon so you won't have to worry.

same thing
a couple of months ago I had a chest xray and they said I had a nodule on my lung. So after a week of thinking I had lung cancer I had a cat scan and it showed that there was nothing in my lung. It was just a shadow that they saw on the chest x ray. Hope the same is for you! good luck and best wishes,

CT vs PET
Perhaps this would be a good time for me to ask if there is a preference of either CT or PET for accuracy in detecting cancer. Will doctors do both or will they make a diagnosis only on a CT?
Not to scare you, but my husband had a neck MRI recently which showed something suspicious on the base of tongue (again). They did a biopsy which confirmed the cancer. Then a full body PET was done and a spot showed up in the upper right lobe. The SUV was above 6 so I guess they are fairly certain that it is cancer. So i was wondering, would a PET add more info for your diagnosis.0 -

You were very fortunate, as I have been in the past. Last year they discovered 5 nodules. Three on one lung and two on the other. I've had one ct scan since and apparantley there has been no change in them. However, now I have been diagnosed with tongue cancer. I just had another CT scan with contrast today and am waiting to see how that turns out. I'm praying it has not gone any farther. Keep thinking positive and the best to you. Bubbins0 -
Spot on lung
Yes David was told the same thing and it was scar tissue, they determined from childhood days. So try not to worry to much about it. I know that is easy to say but They look for everything and that is a good thing. Keep the faith.

Depends on the size of the spot. Something Mike needs to find out. Also the location is important. The PET scan is not very good below 9mm. If anyone has held a 9mm bullet in their hand they can get an appreciation for the size of that. Above 9mm PET can detect. However the CT can tell you if the spot is calcified or not which is a huge deal in ruling out cancer. Calcified is good. Mike please let us know and post more particulars. hopefully you live in the Midwest?0 -

Regardless of scan used, it is helpful to wait for a period of time (say three months) before doing a second scan so that a comparison can be made. This is the only way I can think of to determine whether the 'spot' is growing or not. If it is not growing, they may continue to monitor it but will probably not take any further action at this time.
Even if it IS growing, the one sure-fire way to determine whether it is malignant is a biopsy. Scans alert to the possibility, even the probability, but biopsies confirm,, or so I have been led to understand.
It is not uncommon for head/neck cancer survivors to have scarring in the lungs, because a great many of us were smokers. Things like pneumonia and bronchitis can also cause scarring, among others I am not remembering.
On the other hand, the lungs are a favored homestead for traveling squamous cell carcinoma, as I know firsthand (although they decided my lung SCC was new, fortunately). It is therefore natural for our doctors to keep an eye on the lungs.

MY CHEST CT WAS READ AS "NON CANCEROUS ACTIVITY IN THE THORAX" IT WILL BE WATCHED FOR ANY FUTURE ACTIVITY.
THAT SURE MADE MY DAY!!
