Dec 12, 2008 our lives changed. Emergency room with Robert for abdominal pain and blood in the stool. Scans done..mass in colon and lesions in liver. What does this mean??? Appointment with a local dr for colonoscopy. He's the only one who said I'm sorry, it's cancer. Fast forward three days. Meeting with surgeon to schedule sx resection and loop ileostomy, biopsy of lesions in liver..Dec 28,and referral to onc. Happy New Year. Feb 6, 09 first chemo infusion..folfri+avastin once weekly for 26 treatments...Break in chemo in July for right lobe liver resection..6 weeks to heal and finish chemo in Oct. Yay! Scan showed NED. Yay again! Reversal scheduled Jan 2010. PET done 3 days before sx. Colonoscopy done 1 day before sx..clean results from colonoscopy and ready to go tomorrow. Surgeon says I'm gonna look at his PET and comes back as says no surgery.."suspicious areas in liver" and its a bad place..no ablation no sx, maybe stereotatic radiation. That really knocked Robert down for a while. Chemo again...more scans...one area scar tissue, the other not. Lets' do the stereotatic radiation. June, CT guided biopsy and marker placement for radiation. Radiologist comes out and says no evidence of tumor..nothing there to mark, sorry you had to come all the way out here for nothing. We were estatic. Meet with onc who was very happy and said its up to you to continue chemo or not. Robert said til next scan so onc cut dosage and eliminated avastin. PET in Aug..our little lesion is back and bigger than before. Full chemo started again. Marker placement Sept and waiting on ins approval for cyberknife...denied. Robert said, I'm not gonna make it". Surgeon wrote appeal letter which resulted in approval. YAY. Cyberknife done, 3 treatments. Robert very sick last day and went to ER, vomiting and abdominal pain. Scan says blockage and hernia..transfer to Princeton for 5 days, surgeon says time for reversal since you are having problems, active cancer or not. YAY. Surgery is scheduled for Dec 21, and scan scheduled for the 16th. Merry Christimas. I pray the cancer got killed by the radiation...

Two years and Robert is still kickin'. His Christmas is the reversal. He hates that bag.

    Thanks for the update. Hoping that the tumors are gone and the reversal and surgery goes well.

    It has been a rough 2 years for you and Robert. Here's hoping that 2011 reinstates good health.

    I hope and pray the cancer was killed by the radiation as well. I'll be thinking of you on the 21st. **** was diagnosed 1 month after Robert. I know it has been a hard 2 years. Let's hope the worst is behind us.

    Yes, sx for reversal, hernia repair and scar tissue removal on the 21st. Surgeon says with luck it will be just an overnite stay (I kinda doubt that), but what do I know?? Robert just wants the bag off and sit and poop and read his truck mags. lol

    I'm sending good wishes ahead of time, I think on the 21st I'll still be nicely drugged up.
    Get him some of that nice cottenelle wet wipes for his hiney, so after he's done in the "library" his hind end area won't feel like he's using prison toilet paper. (at least that's what I called some brand my husband bought, it was on sale, (no wonder)and he can't resist a bargain. Needless to say, but I will anyway, THAT BRAND is never coming in this house again.)

    Oh my goodness
    That's right, your surgery is the 20th...yes you will still be doped up, but those nasty tumors will be gone! I have already thought of the cottonelle wipes..on my list for next week. We are in for a time of it, I fear, since he will have had this ilestomy 23 months and 3 weeks on the day of surgery.

    Will keep you in my thoughts and prayers for a uneventful, successful surgery!
