Ascites Getting Me Down.......Need some encouragment
These ascites are not backing down. I will be going for my 6th or 7th (can't remember) drain tomorrow. I have only had one round of Xelox so far. It is my understanding that they think the tumor on my ovary is responsible. I'm just very tired of trekking to the hospital and seeing some of the nurses look at me so sadly. I'm having to go every 4 - 6 days, depending on whether they are able to get it all at the previous procedure.
The docs at Duke want the fluid under control before they will remove the ovary. They also want to do RFA to two liver tumors. I also have two hernias that really hurt as the fluid gets to a certain level.
I have to say that this is the hardest thing I have had to deal with during the last two years. My family is great and supportive but this is still hard.
I guess I want to hear as much as possible that I will make it through this battle and all that.
Thanks guys,
Catherine

Wow, Catherine
This must be so difficult - I've spending alot of time at the hospital these past couple of months and I know it can wear you out.
I would just encourage to stay with it - seems it's the only thing you can do right now, or things just get worse for you. I hope they find the problem and help you get it fixed so you can get back to your other issues.
I'm sorry that you are having to deal with this and just send positive energy to you, to help your spirit.

feeling like this crap will never end.
Catherine Darlin,
There is nothing worst then being in the hospital and feeling like this crap will never end.
Been there and done that. You are alone and your mind screws with you. You get into stinking thinking. That sucks big time.
Well darlin, let’s turn this crap bus around. Lets think as positive as we can and get control of our thoughts. Let’s get a big **** load of Attitude of mind, Attitude of body and Attitude of the spirit within us.
You have been in bigger and nastier battles and you have won. Hell, you are still with us.
This is just one of those damned bumpy side roads.
Now let’s kick some cancer ****. We are all with you.

Catherine:
Do they have any idea what is causing the ascites? Are they testing the fluid for you?
I'm sorry, must be driving you crazy. Of course you will make it through this battle, don't even go there.
Do the doctors have any ideas up their sleeve as to how to get the ascites under control so you can get the ovary removed?
Take care, I wish I had more to offer.

What is that for us?you will do it I'm completely sure about!
Just cheer up , once you got the ascites under control you will see the things in a different manner!
Hugs my dear friend!
Ascites is fluid, usually they test it to see if it is just fluid or if there are cancer cells in the fluid.
Pepe your abdomen can swell up with fluid until it is about the size of a pregnant's woman's tummy.
Can be a real pain the ****!

I am sure you are getting quite tired of all those hospital visits. I hate the friggin hospital. Sending good vibes your way and praying this gets over and done with once and for all. You take care. Stand strong!

Tumor is my understanding of the cause. The fluid tested negative for cancer at the first drain but it is looking a little more cloudy than the first time, at least to me.
I go for round 2 of xelox on Monday, so I will see and talk with my doc then.
Thanks for the encouragement! I need it!

Hang in There
So sorry that you are dealing with this. Hopefully once they get the ovary taken care of you will feel so much better. It has to be very painful and discouraging to have to do this every 6 days, but you will get through it. Do they give you any estimate on when they will remove the tumor? If you keep getting fluid they should operate right after going to get it drained. Hoping that you get some much needed relief soon.

Hang in there!
Catherine,I know it's tough, but just hang in there! It does suck, and I know how the nurse's look at you, I used to just joke about it and ignore the looks. My surgeon never even mentioned that it would be a problem with surgery, knew it wouldn't stop until the tumor came out. In fact, my last drain was the Friday before a Monday surgery. By then, the tumor was so large, they weren't able to get more than 2 liters out, there was at least that and more when they opened me up. They just drained it out. I don't know what they think is going to control the fluid, obviously not the chemo! I certainly sympathize with you on that dam cycle you are on, you can feel the pressure building, and the relief is just wonderful when they drain it, but it's gets to be very tiring. And the looks you get as the abdomen swells are just priceless sometimes. You will definitely make it through and one day be looking back at it, glad you made it through. Send me a pm if you need to talk, ok?

Thankfully I have no friggin idea of what you are going through.
That being said, I wish I could take the pain and suffering away from you.
You need encouragement? My gosh, how do I give what you have given to me so many times?
All I can say is hun, hang in there, this too, shall pass.
I have faith that you will be fine once again. If I can do anything for you, please let me know?
Thinking of you, hoping you will be pain free.
