Betty Ford, Happy Rockefeller, Sandra Day O'Connor...
I only mention these pink ladies as they have all gone 20 years or more since their bouts.

Some breast cancer will never metastasize. Some will. The real problem is not knowing whose will and whose won't.
Dr. Love states that if you die of something else, then you didn't die of breast cancer.

Why Sylvia? Is there some secret that breast cancer is not a ghastly disease? More people women and men go on after diagnose to live a normal life. About 30% develop metastasis and 41,000 in the US die each year from breast cancer. For them the disease is horrendous. Do they need to be reminded of the fact that they are not in the lucky circle?
I don't understand how anyone can post something like this and so many reply in agreement. Perhaps someone will be kind enough to explain it to me.

Dear Carkris,
On October 29th, a lovely lady from Israel name RivkA died from her metastasis breast cancer. In 2005, she was diagnose with stage 0, 2007 developed metastasis to the lungs, bones, liver, 2009 the brain and it was the liver that was the cause of her death. The same as Mrs. Edwards.
What stage you are, how big your tumor even how aggressive it is, doesn't matter. No one really knows why some never again have a recurrence and why some do. If they knew that answer, they might be able to find a cure, eh?
This is why I so do dislike Pink October, it gives such a false message about Breast Cancer and what it really is.
I hope for you and your friend Judy the best and never know the anguish of stage IV.

as it encourages all of us that there is hope if we have strength. Life goes on as does medical research. There are many women in the world who have survived bc.

Many survive, and many die of this disease Cahjah. I don't have the world wide figure who how many women and men die of breast cancer each year, but I am betting the figure to be exceedingly high.

Please don't!
I am interested in why these posters thought it was ok to see this sort of post and why they believe it is ok.
Please this is not the season to bash, begin flame war or any of those negatives.
I posted mainly to have you think about those women and probably men who are stage IV on here, those who post and those who only read. It might not bother some, but I bet it bothers a few.
On forums like these open to all stages and especially this one on breast cancer; one must understand that saying who hoo look at us, were stage 0, 1, 2, 3, and not think of those of us who are stage IV. To me this was a very, very, very negative post and very thoughtless.

Sirod this was about feeling sad and frightened about Elizabeth Edwards death. and regaining our ability to hope. Actually people were feeling quite frightened and aware of how fragile they are. Many people in all stages of disease reported feeling this way. We are all aware that we could recur despite our stage.0 -

I think it is just as important to celebrate those who are dancing with NED after many years as it is to hold in our hearts those who are still fighting.
I think hope and compassion both have a place here on this board.

Dear Carkris,
Thank you for replying. Even I will admit to have been shaken up upon learning of Elizabeth Edwards death. Though it came upon the heals of two real people in my life who died last weekend of breast cancer metastasis. One that was diagnose the same time as I and the other lady was dx when I had my first recurrence.
To quote Mrs. Edwards "The days of our lives, for all of us, are numbered. We know that."
My point was that this post sounded to much "as look at us" were not in the stage IV group. I think that posters should think about the others who are no longer or never have been in that group.

Dear Traci,
Thank you for replying. I don't disagree that one should celebrate and even dance or twirl upon finishing treatment after a diagnose with breast cancer. One hopes to remain NED forever.
However, the point I was making is that the postings sounded to much like "Look at Us" were still in those groups that are curable. There should be more diplomacy in remembering that there is a good size number of people who are not. There is hope for us with stage IV but like Elizabeth Edward stated on her facebook page "The days of our lives, for all of us, are numbered. We know that." For those of us in the last stage, we are aware of the reality a lot more than the other stages. It's not "IF" but "when". Though we all know, understand that every living thing on this planet will die. Death and Taxes are the one certainty in life.
Sensitivity has a place here I believe, don't you agree?
