The kindness of a stranger at Christmastime
I thought that I'd share a nice story of what happened to me today. Kathy (khl8) posted a couple of weeks ago about decorating for Christmas, so I decided right then an there that I'd put up a tree for Christmas so that Rick could have something nice to look at all day besides the TV. So, I hopped in the car and went in search of a tree. I was hoping to get one for $20 or so since I don't have much money these days. Lowes was out of tall trees, but I had earlier passed a spot selling trees that helped to support the local Men's Club. I asked the gentleman how much the trees were and he said, "45, 55 and 65 dollars." I think he saw my face turn to sadness at the price, so he said, "What can you afford?". Then he asked why my husband and kids weren't out with me. I told him that Rick had cancer and was recovering from surgery, so he couldn't help me, and I don't have any children. He asked how long Rick has had cancer, and I told him, "He was diagnosed exactly one year ago today.". At this point he went over to a tree and held it up? "Do you like this one?", he asked. I told him that it was lovely but I couldn't afford such a nice tree. He smiled, picked it up and took it over to the machine to wrap it up. I went to pay him what I thought might be $45, but he simply said, "Merry Christmas!". At that point I started to cry. Then he told me that I could "repay" him by bringing Rick by NEXT year to pick out the tree!. How wonderful it is to have such caring people in this world. I was so touched by his act of kindness. I now have a lovely tree sitting in my living room awaiting decoration. I'll have my Rick put the star at the top. :-) Hugs, Cynthia

Tears of Joy
Those kind of stories are where Christmas Miracles come from! I'm sure he had as much joy in giving that tree to you, as you were to receive such a wonderful gift. Really does warm the heart when others give, for the sake of just giving, expecting nothing in return.
This is another wonderful Christmas story to start our season off, Cynthia and I thank you for sharing this story - just the kind of story that reaches out and melts this "Ol' Grinch's" heart.
Send me your address in a PM - Santa Craig has something for you and Rick as well - and you can celebrate and enjoy that with your new tree - I won't take NO for an answer - and it will fill both of your hearts with joy!

Look around....
there are special angels everywhere....
especially at the holidays!!!
I'm so happy you decided to decorate! The year I was dx'ed, I was definately Bah! Humbug!
My daughter came to live with me to take care of me (my beau's dad died 2 weeks before Christmas, so I was without him). SHE said "Are you kidding me? Of COURSE we are decorating!!!!!" It brought so much cheer to me...

That's what it's all about!
I try each day to be kind and I will go out of my way to open a door, pick up an item someone dropped, give someone the cart I pulled out and get another, just little things that take no effort, just a kind heart! I have even put a cartoon on my iphone so this little girl would sit still while her grandma, got her nails done, and it wasn't me, but I was there too, of course! When I was in Mexico this lady who was about 70 lost her reading glasses, and couldn't find another pair, she was so upset... so I gave her mine, she asked how much...and I said no charge!0 -

my goodness, I'm so happy for you and for this stranger. Your story brought tears to my eyes, also. It feels so good to be able to something as special as this for someone. It's more blessed to give than to receive. Such a very nice, caring gentleman.

Maybe it's because I just came back from church and I am filled with the love of the holy spirit but oh my you just made me cry with that story. What a wonderful kind man for doing that for you and Rick. Paying it forward is such a great thing and we all should try to do this just a little. Not having the money for a Christmas tree is tough when all we can worry about is paying the dumb medical bills. I fully expect a miracle blessing upon Rick and yes he will be with you next year picking out that Christmas tree. Heck you all will be picking out Christmas trees together 25-30 years from now. God Bless you my friend and Go Patriots tonight against the Jets...
