The City of Fort Worth has a bus system called the "T" its the public transportation for the City. They are as of tomorrow allowing signs on the busses that read "Good without God" for some atheist (sp??) group. I as a christian am totally insulted and have been in a test war on facebook all morning.

What are your thoughts?

    I hate it!
I hate it!!!! I'm a christian and love God more than anything. I believe that when you take God out of things you have big trouble. I'm pretty sure that's what wrong with a lot of things these days. Ya know, when these atheist's get hurt or are in trouble what is the first thing they say.. hmm I bet its "oh God".

I'm sure this is a global
I'm sure this is a global thing as it's happening here in Canada too....read link:
    Christ meets Big Foot

I just wish people would live and let live and I think doing this at Christmas time is in bad taste. Personally I don't feel I need to prove or justify my beliefs, whatever they may be. Some things can't be held in the hand and measured. I am an unlabeled, uncategorized person. Meaning I can not say I am of any particular religion, I just am.

I can see this from both
I can see this from both sides. As I come from a long line of liberal journalists, I am a huge believer in First Amendment rights, having been schooled in how potentially dangerous censorship is~ whether we believe in the cause being touted or not. I defend ones right to be on the opposite side of most arguments!
The laundry list is long of people who call themselves God-Fearing and align themselves with an organized religion, only to live lives which fly in the face of the very prinicples they self-righteously defend. Ministers who come out against Gay Rights but who are having adulterous homosexual affairs come to mind right away, as just one example .
This is not an indictment against any and all faith based religions and those who are sincerely involved in them. But, I also know people who never go to church, avoid any and all things to do with God, and yet are kind, honest and as the bus message in question says, Good.
I am not one who is easily thrown; athiests are insulted by church-goers, church-goers insulted by athiests. And lots in the middle! I try and not be unduly insulted by either! AS long as no one is in danger of actual harm...I can ignore things I don't agree with. And people who don't agree with me!

I know that the scriptures say that God makes it rain and shine on the good and bad people equally; if that is what we believe, perhaps this is one of those times. The bus takes believers and non believers to their destinations equally!

NOTE TO GRETA! I know there is a Spirituality board here on CSN~ perhaps this subject is better suited for that forum! I am not going to get in a spot here by not posting on the preferred board!

Hugs, and thanks for the food for thought~ nice to get riled up over something other than cancer! LOL But we should probably take this to the Sprituality board..Religion, Politics and Cancer make really strange bedfellows! :-)

    I am a Christian, and

I am a Christian, and although I am bothered by the message, the great thing about our country is that we have freedom of speech, and this group is expressing theirs. However, this message should not be allowed if a message of the hope found in Jesus is not also allowed on the bus.

Public transportation system should be free of any propaganda and promotion of any religion affiliation, including atheism as well.

It's rather interesting! On city buses I have seen ads for joining the military, which may offend pacifists, family planning clinics, which may offend some religious adherents, ads in languages other than English, which offend the Engish Only crowd, the list is endless! Someone is always going to be potentially offended! If the Good Without God crowd was aiming at starting dialog, they have succeeded! And, sad to say, with the global economy teetering as precariously as it is; cooler, smarter heads don't always prevail~ the money god is oftentimes the winner. Ads don't get placed for free. Companies, corporations, and groups have to pay for the privledge of having their ads featured.
My solution? I always have a book and or iPod with me and I am happily in my own oblivious world! Maybe next month the Muslims will have an ad, followed the Jews, the Wiccans, the Sister-Wives Society and the Vegans vs Vegetarians etc etc after that! LOL The bus company will thrive!
I had a license plate holder made for Siobhan...it says WWBuffyD???? Think I will figure that out and act accordingly!

    One would have ask?
One would have to ask, that when those folks are in a pickle or afraid for their very lives; do they say "Oh God I'm so sorry or Oh God help me." If they don't....

hate it or love it. A friend of mine stated something regarding this that I agree with. If you are firm in your faith, it is not something that would threaten you. So why not let the atheists have their say?

I suspect that if I have the strength to say anything and the wherewithal to say something profound, it will be 'Well, about to find out!'

I don't understand how this can be insulting to you. It's a group expressing their beliefs - not attacking anyone. There is no mean spirit or contempt in this situation. I think you are making too much of this.

There was a similar ad campaign in NYC over the summer and again in October that had slogans like these below:
“You can be good without God.”
“Don’t Believe in God? You Are Not Alone.”
“A Million New Yorkers Are Good Without God. Are You?”
Also, the book “Good Without God” by Greg Epstein was released in late October.

There does seem to be an insinuation in America that you must believe in God in order to get in to heaven. Heaven being used to represent a reward for being "good". There are plenty of people who profess a belief in God and are not good just as there are plenty of people who do not believe in God who are good. The two ideas can be very far apart from each other.

A number of atheist-themed advertising campaigns have been promoted this year. The largest so far has been one in Britain that put ads on 800 buses stating: “There’s probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life.” I kind of like this one the best. Some people worry so much about the hereafter and do not pay attention to what is going on in the present.

I wonder what the reaction would be if the "Keep Christ in Christmas" ads were posted on buses? Or "Happy Ramadan"? I would hope that they would be given the same ad space as long as the monies came from private funds and not public funding.

So my thoughts are that it's OK for Atheists to post their ads just as long as it's OK for other groups to do the same. It IS America after all...

On a slightly different topic, I've read that schools and school buses are looking into ads on the buses and on lockers in order to raise money for school. I can see it now "Mrs. Smiths Cooking Class 101 is sponsored by Pepto-Bismol".

    Libby,
For all those who have a love and respect for God, these statements are hurtful and difficult to read, plain and simple. For those who don't believe in God, it would be as if someone wrote something offensive about your son, daughter, wife, Father, Mother in whom you hold the highest love and respect. You take it personal, it hurts you deeply, because you LOVE them.

You know who God is in your life and that's all that matters. Everyone is free to choose what they want to believe in.

As far as Heaven is concerned, IF you believe in Scripture, which some people believe is the Word of God, then you know it says the only way to Heaven is through the acceptance of Jesus Christ. God knows a man's heart and He knows when one truly accepts His Son. It becomes life changing.

I've only seen one billboard here and when I did have to see it every day, I thanked God that by His mercy and Grace, those that fight against Him, will some day be saved and with Him rejoicing for all eternity!
