"to hope is to gamble. it's to bet on the future, on your desires, on the possibility that an open heart and uncertainty are better than gloom and safety. to hope is dangerous, and yet it is the opposite of fear, for to live is to risk...to hope is to give yourself to the future, and that commitment to the future makes the present habitable." rebecca solnit.

Hi Maggie
Thanks for the quote. I had to read the quote you posted about four times to it, "...an open heart and uncertainty are better than gloom and safety." The word "uncertainty" came up this week in a discussion I had with my med onc, as it applies to my current situation and treatment. Linking uncertainty with an open heart definitely wins over gloom and safety in my book. Gloom and safety seems to be without meaningful living, doesn't it? As I see it, "...an open heart and uncertainty..." have you moving forward with true living as your goal.
Looking forward to pondering Solnit's quote further...
Peace and hope, JJ0 -
